Sorry about this. I'm new and any help on what to do with the hybrids would be helpful. Thanks

Er... it's not possible to cross guppies and tetras (well, not unless you're a scientist into cloning technology). What exactly is your situation?

Welcome to the forums. Er, as Anna said, you can't cross an externally fertilised egglayer with an internally fertilised livebearer. That would be kind of like crossing a mouse with a blackbird.

Welcome to the forum! Hopefully you have this question resolved and you find out just what kind of fish you have there! :D

mollies and guppies can breed together. They're both livebearers, and when they do so you either get a golly or a muppy.

tetras, being egglayers, can not cross breed with livebearers, sorry.

I'd love to actually find out what type of fish you have though!

This is a very intreagueing thread...

Can I ask how you got hold of this 'hybrid'... I mean did you breed it yourself or did someone give it to you? It can't be a tetra/guppy cross but I'm sure there's an explanation and, now, I must say I realy want to find out what it is. :p

Do you have a picture BTW?

Oh and, what exactly was the question? :p Why can't you just keep them?

Oh I think I must have just solved the problem ;). Just out of curiosity - did you buy yourself a female guppy, added it to a tank that only contains tetras and, now, a few days/weeks/months on she gave birth so you, logically, assumed the fry are tetra/guppy crosses?

i bet he bought a guppy that was already pregnant (since livebearers can store sperm for 6 month). had no male guppies...and just made the assumption.

i think everyone has scared the newbie :p
Don't think so :p This thread is nearly 2 years old
How can that be? The hybrid forum hasnt even been around that long? Maybe it was moved.

I know this is a beaten horse. But, he could have had an endler's livebearer and maybe thought since it had different colors on it's side and a smaller tail then a "regular guppy" he thought it was mixed with some kinda cardnal or neon tetra and it had unusual colors.
I don't know, just my two cents. It just makes more sense to me then a cross between a tetra and a guppy ;)

Sorry i budded in
