Hi folks,
My name is Anthony, and I'm from Glasgow, and I've just got into keeping fish since I've moved into my new flat.
i've not had my setup long, and I'm already changing things. Starting out with an aquaflow 50 filter, I felt it was too small, so I'm currently running in an aquafow 100.
I have two Orandas bought from pets at home (are they orandas, I'm not sure), and one moore bought from waterworld aquatics, housed in a clearseal tank. I think the gravel is next to be changed for some natural colours.

Your fish look like fantails to me, although it can be difficult to tell when the fish are young.

I hope you don't feel I'm jumping on you as soon as you've joined, but I do have a couple of questions for you;

Is your tank cycled?

And how big is your tank? Goldfish grow quite large, so do need large tanks and a lot of filtration.

Hi, yes, it's been running for a few weeks now. The filter in the background is my old aquaflo 50. I,ve been running a aqua flow 100 in conjuction with it for a week so far. The tank is a 40 litre, 46x30x30. I kind of know that when they do get bigger at least one will have toleave

Okay....I'm afraid the minimum recommended tank size for fancy goldfish is 100l, then 50l for each extra fish; so for three, you'd be looking at something like a 200l tank...

When you say it's been running for a few weeks..did you just let it sit there before you added fish or did you add ammonia?

Hi Mariah, I added Ali's stress zyme + which I was told would help with the startup of the tank.
Fluttermoth, does that mean I have to upgrade straight away' or do I have time on my hands?

That won't have done much if anything at all, unfortunately. Do you have a test kit? You can read about cycling HERE. I personally would return the goldfish and do that and then find more suitable fish for the tank.

If you would like to keep them it might be best to look into a bigger tank now or perhaps a storage tote as a temporary bigger home.

Hi, the ammonia level is between 0 and 0.25 at the moment
The colour is closer to 0 from the chart I have

You need to think about upgrading ASAP. Fish, like most things, do the majority of their growth when they're young, and you run the very real risk of stunting them if they stay in a 40l for too long.

Have you read the articles on cycling?

Passed the fish over to my local aquarium. He took the moor home with him. Kinda sad.

I'm sorry but it was the best thing to do for them. Good on you for doing it!

Decided to go for some white cloud mountain minnows. got four at the weekend. Added a live plant today in the left hand side.  the fish seem to like it as they are always swimming through it.
Don't know if I'd be able to add any onter fish to the tank, maybe some gold CMM's.
