Hi
On a recent trip to a lfs, i saw some stunning looking fish. They were labelled as Indian Rainbow Snakeheads. The guy i spoke to about them seemed a bit vague in his explanation of the care etc....

Could i ask whether i would be possible to house these snakeheads in a 40 gallon (UK) tank with external filter? If so, what would be a good number and ratio of sexes?

thanks

rainbow snakehead = channa bleheri. Max size - 8 inch.
They are fairly mild tempered to fish at least 3/4 the size of them, best baught and kept in groups then a male and female will pair off then you sell the left over ones on.
If you dont know how its difficult to sex them, easiest way is from above, the male has a much wider head.
A group of around 6 will be fine in a 40 g tank, they are fairly communal fish until it comes to pairing off and breeding, at which time they should be alone.
Anything else, just ask!

Dave
