hi everyone i just bought a new fish tank yesterday its an aqua one rv850 and is stunning to the eye. i have had tanks before the first one i had was a second hand 36inch all glass one (you know very ugly) then i got a new 36 inch one in a mahoganey cabinet but then i bought a caravan to live in in the country so had to seel that so i bought a 60 ltr biorb which is lovely but i just wanted more, so after coming ome from my holiday early from severe illness i went out and bought myself a 155ltr aqua one glass bow fronted tank with built in filtration system. this is the best tank i have ever had. i am just making sure it is structurally safe before i add water. i wanted to use sand in the bottom but the man in the aquarium store would only sell me pea gravel but i still think i wil go with sand as it looks sooo much nicer. i dont want the tank over decorated just a few rocks and have some beautiful shells i got from the maldives and had sterilised. cant wait to get it up and running. would love to hear from anyone with any advice. am thinking of just keeping guppies and shrimp and a couple more small unusual looking things to keep in. anyone got any ideas. would be great to hear from u

:hi: Hi lilladybev and welcome to the forum. I have two tanks, one with gravel and one with sand and the sand one is much nicer . Also if you ever plan on getting any corries in the future a soft substrate like sand is kinder to their barbels. As for the shells I am no expert but there may be a possibility that they may affect the ph and/or the hardness of the water but not sure about that. Good luck with your future fishkeeping :good:

welcome to the board!
i would agree sand would be better.
but i would avoid the shells unless you're keeping high PH cichlids
