hey there everyone my tank is only about a week old but ive been very bad and i havent done any testing for Ph levels or ammonia. i have 5 white clouds and a catfish of some sort. they were living together at the pet shop so i figured they would get on well. next fortnight when i get some more money i'll buy some test kits and see how they are going. i have a very strict budget. 40 australian dollars a fortnight. grr i hate being a pov. :grr:

Well at least you know you need a test kit, that's a lot more than some newbies on here (but that's ok too). You picked some good fish to start with, as white clouds are often good starter fish and hardy for cycling. Make sure when you get your test kits to get pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. They're all important and work together. Good luck with your new tank and :hi:!

hello i think you just came to the best site on the net. :D
if you are getting a test kit see if they got the 5 in 1 test kit better for the old money :hyper:
and i bet once you do a test the first thing your do is look like this  do this :book: then come right back on here to no what the h**l all the results are
I DID :*)

ive heard nothing good about those maby im mistaken but get the ones with the test tube and the liquid testing, its much more accuret i think, it takez bout 6 minutes but for 5 minutes you are waiting

hi and welcome to the forum baseballfan is right those test strips liked to give me heart failure they showed up 200 levels of nitrate I worked on my tanks for a week changing my water everyday and it still showed up 200 levels so I took a sample of my water in to the lfs and they showed up at 40 so if I were you I would get the liquid kind it is much more closer than those strips are

so ive gotta get the liquid test? do i have to get all different ones or is there one that will test all of them?
Welcome to the best and nicest site on the net, sg13commander! Hopefully we'll all beable to answer any question you have. :)

Sorry to say tho, you'll need a different test kit for each.

i dont know about where you live, but here you can get a master test kit which has liquid testers for all of the stuff for about $20.00. If you can find one of there, all of the stuff comesin the same box, was cheaper for me to get this instead of getting each tester seperate. Good luck. Sandy

welcome

so anyone got any uk sites that sell a master test kit?

I know Aquatics direct sell an Hagan Nutrafin Test Kit - Master Test Kit Includes everything you need to test for Ammonia, Calcium, Nitrate, Phosphate, General Hardness, Carbonate Hardness, Nitrite, pH (high range and low range and Iron for £44:99 http://www.aquatics-direct.co.uk/

Hagan web site says they do a mini master test kit, its not on the web site though

and the aquatics direct ad in PFK this month says they do an Easytest master kit, these are good tablet kits and I think tablets are as effective as liquid (if anyone knows otherwise please tell me) for 19.95 testing Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH broad range

Edit-to say it seems that aquacadabra, do the above two tests and a liquid Interpet cheaper than above by £5-10 but are phone ordering only 01322 351673

well i went to my lps today, just for a browse, leaving my mum next door at the fabric shop. was looking around at the test kits and mum came in and asked which one i needed. about 102 ozzie bucks later  (67 us and 42 uk) we came out of the store with a Ph test kit, an air pump, a complete setup kit for growing brine shrimp and a refill for both shrimp and food for the shrimp. and as mummy dearest paid for it all i now have tons of housework to do :-( to repay her and hope that my step dad doesnt find out how much we spent. :p  :D
