Okay I purchased a HM DT golden male off aquabid. Here is the picture from the auction:

Some members expressed concern because he looked deformed (shovelheaded). So I took some pictures of him today and was wondering if you guys could tell me if he is indeed deformed or if he's okay.

I know that's a lot of pictures, but I wanted to show him from different angles so you all could get a really good look at him. What's the verdict? Shovelheaded? Normal? I wanted to use him for breeding, so if he's deformed I don't want to pass this on to any fry. :/

I dont know if he is deformed either, he may just have a strange body type, he looks gorgeous by the way.

Looks a little shovelheaded in some of those pics, but not enough that I'd worry about it, personally. It's probably a byproduct of the spinal problems common to DTs.

would you love him anyless if it was? hes got great fins witha nice split

No, I wouldn't love him any less if he were deformed, but I wouldn't use him for breeding so it wouldn't spread the deformity. ;)

Thanks all. I do think he's GORGEOUS, too. I'm glad that there doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I'll go ahead and try him with a female to see what happens. :D I guess if the first spawn has deformities, I won't use him again. :/

 that made me giggle..imagine the fish looking his best so Mum lets him have a girl friend..have a good time fish it might only happen once...

Aye, shovelheaded to the extreme, awful tail structure, and the colour could well be considered an undesirable trait...
Send him over to me, I think it would be better for his welfare  :p

His spine is a little bit bent, but nothing that will affect him or breeding him too much, if at all, as long as you don't pick him out a really badly deformed female :)

 Well if you look at it that way, it does sound pretty funny!

Nah, I'll be sure his girly betta friend isn't the Quasimodo of fish or anything. ;) Not sure I can afford a :hooray: prize winner, but I'll do my best to get him a beauty! :D

You said what I was thinkin'

Aaannd if you're planning on spawning him, try not to breed him with a sibling, you'll want to outcross, probaby to a ST HM female unrelated :)
