It sounds as if it might be columnaris. Tetracyline is the best way to treat it, although you could try Maracyn I or II.

BTW- Stress coat is a dechlorinator with aloe vera in it... I have saved several fish from columnaris by overdosing their tank with it.

Several things can cause excess slime coat (NO, bettas DO NOT shed...if there's "skin" hanging off of them, there's something wrong). Dirty tank, ammonia/nitrite, bacteria or parasite. The fish is trying to protect itself from something irritating it's skin. I would clean the tank every other day for about a week. If it's still producing excess slime, I'd suspect parasites next.

Horrible news, Orchid died about 15 minutes ago. I buried him in a necklace box under a tree outside. RIP Orchid, you got me into fishkeeping, and I have never seen a veiltail betta as full of personality, color, or flare as you. RIP sweetheart, I will NEVER forget you.

I cried for about a half hour. I was having a really bad day today, and this just set me off. He never even got to live in the tank I'm building. I was building it for him.

So sorry about your loss. At least he got you into this and I'm sure he'd want you to replace him with a little rescue just as beautiful as him! :byebye: bye bye orchid

I am so sorry. Words can not describe what it feels like to lose something. Take comfort in knowing that you loved him very much and he will always have a special place in your heart that no other fish can ever take. He was the fish to get you into fish keeping. If you are going to get another betta, I would sterilize the tank before adding him. I am sure you knew that already though.

:rip: :byebye: I'm so sorry you lost little Orchid. I'm sure you did all that you could for him and he had a very happy life with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I've been where you are, my very first little beloved Amos hung on for quite a few days before he went. It's devistating, I know.

He knows that you did everything you possibly could for him and you should feel very good about that. Sometimes things are just too much for them and they have to go on. He got to decide when it was time, and that counts for something. Some are not so lucky.

Anyway - hang in there, better days are ahead.

Sorry awful i no, R.I.P.

Sorry to bring up this old topic, but I just thought I'd confirm something. I am 100% positive it was columnaris that killed my Orchid. if you go to this link, http://www.mushi.petfish.net/columnaris.html this is EXACTLY what he looked like, only worse. I just never knew columnaris attacked and killed so quickly. He couldn't have been sick for more than 24 hours.

Booboo, can you post a pic of Barracuda? I've never seen a green betta but I really wanna see one.

As soon as I figure out how to download to the computer...he's sort of a metallic green. AquaBid.com has photos of green bettas.
