Alright...for starters the other night i euthanized my cory because he had no fins and 2 giant red sores on his sides, i didnt want it to spread...well i might have been to late. I looked at my barbs and one of my barbs now has a blood red face. I checked everything, nitrite 0, ammonia 0, ph is 6.0 but has been like that for a while. WHAT IS WRONG????

plecoguy, did u decide against the coral? I think it could be due to the low pH.

yes...i have not done the coral...i tryed some ph buffer with no results.......so im gonna do a waterchange and use water with a little higher ph. Ill do that tomorrow, and i will let you know what happens.

sounded like some obscure parasite to me but then its not easy to diagnose fish. near impossible even if im looking at the fish it can be hard sometimes to decide what it might be. it obviousely realted to the two red sores on the previouse fish. bacterial infections usually come after stress at least and normallt some kind of wound or scratch. to have two distinct spots on the previouse fish would indicate some kind of point of disease. some kind of fluke or something perhaps. i cant begin to say what to do but i would suggest a salt bath and isolation are my favorites. medications might work but untill you know what you have its not going to be easy for you... keep your chin up and good luck.

sounds like sucker marks from leeches!!!!! but im not 100% sure, hang on let me get my book.

Right-

RED Spots on skin maybe wounds caused by ECTOPARASITES such as LEECHES or subcutaneous HAEMORRHAGES

RED spots or streaks on the fins (FIN CONGESTION are associated with FIN ROT.

I found www.Koivet.com quite useful.

Probably dont know what im talking about, but dont some kinds of barbs get red faces when they are ummm in the mood? Tiger/green barbs i think

well...sorry for not responding for a while, im fighting another battle. But in my 40 gallon that had the problem, i started to raise the ph with baking soda, and the fish seemed to get all better. BUT NOW..in my pretty new 44 gallon ive lost 2 pictus cats to ick, and the third is covered, im using a treatment ok for scaless fish...but i dont think they will make it. IM kinda upset about losing these fish :(

m8 sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it....

....glad the first tank is getting better

...if you slowly raise the temp to about 82f/30c this will speed up the life cycle of the parasite and should make the medication more effective...

:)

ya...ive raise the temp...i really hope it helps the last 2 fish i have in there (pictus cat, driftwood cat)....
