Help!

First off I'm sorry for the total dissapearence with not even a good bye, health related issues stopped me from being active.

Now onto the problem, I have recently come home from a trip ( 2 day ) and was disgusted when I seem my two tanks. Both were covered in a gross slimy brown algae, but the bigger issue is my pleco has no eyes! He was fine before I left and both tanks were spotless like always. ( no lights were on ).

I really don't know what to do, I know he won't ever regrow an eye and that makes me feel like I can't house him anymore because my next biggest tank is a 20 gal and I know that's far to small for my plec.

But what would be worse, putting him in my 20gal, euthanizing him, or leaving him in with my cichlids who I can already see are now starting to pick on him This hurts alot because he was such a nice looking plec and now his color has rapidly changed to almost all black .

How big is the plec?
What are the dimensions of the 20g?
What fish are in the tank where this catfish has lost its eyes?
 
If the catfish will physically fit in the 20g, it should be moved there, even if it just very temporary before you consider something longer. Make sure to transfer over a suitable proportion of the filter media and a filter to keep the catfish's water safe, but do monitor regularly in the short term for toxin spikes. You will probably want to be doing ~20% daily water changes anyway to try and prevent any infection from open wounds, maybe using a general anti-bacterial like Myxazin or Esha2000. What a poor plec!

The plec is probally 7-8 inches ( it will fit in the 20gal I just know long term that's bad )

The 20gal is just your average 20gal from a pet store its not a long tank.

He was in a cichlid tank for almost 9 1/2 months with no issues and only recently were new fish added. Almost all of the fish are kenyi female with the exception of one male. There is also a red eyed albino, bumble bee, jeweled, and yellow lab. But those have all been in the tank since it was first started, and I have never seen any aggression ( I also watch my tank quiete often while painting or reading )

I just finished transfering him over to the 20 gal but their is no need in seeding this tank as it was already properly cycled and levels have stayed perfect. I will however be doing 30% water changes daily on the tank to keep infection away.

I think he'll be alright temporarily whilst you sort out the problem in your other tank.

Glad to report it's now been 2 nights and my pleco is doing fine in the 20 gal. And for the first time since I owned him I got to see him eat. Apparently he likes shrimp pellets.
