:( have just aquired a complete tank and fish setup from a couple who have divorced. . . consisting of one huge pleco catfish 2 tiger barbs 2 albino catfish (cavefish??) 1 neon tetra and a couple of loaches.

got it all home and setup tank was in a right state. . . . . . fish seem to be perking up but the pleco has a white eye, i can see his eye behind this film wondered if ti was a condition or just age . . hes about 12 inches long so hes not young I wouldnt think

all help gratefully recieved

(tank 4 foot. . . . eheim filter twin air stones lotsa rocks NO plants :( still whole lot for a tenner so not total loss)

treat the tank with antibacterial meds of some sort...

12 inches isnt that big if its a common plec... and it could only be a year or 2 old so I suggest there is something wrong.

the meds i bought for my tank is called Melafix. comes in a blue bottle with a yellow and red label. It worked great and only cost about 6 bucks. it works as a disease or wound treatment.

Melafix is good stuff. It should do the trick.
melafix is good stuff but it isnt a med. it works a treat on healing torn fins and grazes etc... its purely tea tree oil and water...nothing more.

white eye is sometimes caused by some sort of trauma to the eye and can also be caused by a surge in ammonia levels..

what are the readings for the tank?

i would make sure you have optimal water conditions and see if it clears up..
daily small waterchanges. melafix certainly could help too. certainly wont do any harm. water quality is much more important though
