Help!

How big is the tank your friend is setting up? I doubt it will be big enough to house the fish properly.

The common/comet fish would be better off in a pond as they can get really big. If they are kept in a tank they will probably need 80 gallons upwards for 4 of them.

You could keep 3-4 of the fancy goldfish in your tank. The other 2-3 will need a tank of 30 gallons (just for them).

You still then have 15 minnows to rehome (not sure what size tank they would need, maybe another 30G?)

and then you still have 2 unknown pink fish (which could really be anything) and the stripey one.

I doubt your friend will have the capcity for these fish. You are better off taking at least the commons/comets back to the lfs (or dontating them to someone with a pond).

what are you water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH)? for the third time,

do you have a test kit? if not get one asap.

how often are you doing water changes? and what filtration do you have?

ye i am tetra safe i am planin on rehoming the none fancys. My mates tanmk was ready i was just gonna take them but shes jus called an said her cat smashed it arrghhhhhhhh now i havent a clue where there goin lol

well if the tank is smashed you should just take them back to the lfs.

myself and Azaezl have asked you quite a few questions about your tank which you haven't answered. We are only asking so we can help you with advice.

Do you have a test kit?

edit: you will still be massively overstocked with the 6 fancy, 15 minnows and 3 unknown fish (could you take some pictures so we could help identify the unknown ones)

ye i can sorry bout that i dont have a test kit will have 2 take water down lfs asap i have a friend with a pond maby they can take them for me ill ring them i will get pics asap

ok.

why don't you have a testkit yet? It really is essential to fishkeeping, and even more essential when you are overstocked like you are

Instead of taking a water sample to your lfs, go to the lfs and buy a liquid test kit. If the money is a problem, ask your dad. He's clearly shown an interest in the fish and its partially his fault that you are as overstocked as you are.

If you don't buy your own kit (which I seriously advise you to do), and take the water sample to the lfs instead, get them to write down the actual numbers. Don't let them just say, yeah it's fine, or x is a little high, get the actual numbers.

some other questions we asked were, what filtration do you have? and how often (and how much) are you doing water changes?

According to your posts on January 23rd you had 21 fish, on Feb 6th you lost 'spot' and 'flame', then feb 9th you lost 'toothbrush' then feb 16th you lost 'snape'. That's 4 deaths in less then 2 weeks which to me says something isn't right in the tank.

Now that's good detective work!

I whole heartedly agree with what has been said so far.

May I add though?
Fancy goldfish need at least 10 gallons per fish and the comets need a pond. Being overstocked as you are, I really hope you can move the goldfish (all the goldfish) out. I'd suggest returning the goldfish that you can't rehome to the petstore that sold them to you. The petstore should've known better than to sell you fish that would grow too big for your tank.

The remaining 15 minnows and two mystery fish should be okay in you tank. Try to stick to the one inch per gallon rule but go by adult size. A fancy tail goldie will be 8-10 inches when they are full grown. That means 8-10 gallons for just one. Then those minnows, even if they are just an inch long, are another 15 gallons. The comet goldies will grow to 18 inches if their growth isn't stunted in a small tank. Thats another 18-20 gallons. Do the math.

Please don't be offended, I don't want to guilt trip you because its not your fault. The petstore should've cared more about starting you out right than about what kind of money they could make.

Depending on what the mystery fish are of course.

agree with groupiekilla about how much space the fish will need though. I think you have a choice between keeping 3-4 of the fancy goldfish or keeping the minnows.
Or you could could keep 2 fancy goldfish and half the minnows

Unfortunatly with all the advice as above I think your tank may not have a filter at all or if it does, it may not be big enough to handle the load of goldfish. If you dont act fast and start returning the fish back to the fish store, you will eventually lose most of them if not all.

The sooner you act the better it will be for the fish.

Hi blacksnapemoor,

I can see from reading this thread you seem to want help with this, but you are maybe a bit reluctant to answer questions.

I've been there. You know you've done it wrong, and you want to fix it, but it's embarassing to say 'I don't have a test kit' or 'I only do water changes every 3 weeks' or whatever. Its strange because we can't see each other but it still feels embarrassing to say these things, right? I'm sure we've all been there.

I used to invent water stats on a forum i used to use because i knew that the real ones were really bad. It didn't help, it just lost me lots of fish.

I know its hard, i remember feeling like that myself once but try to give the info we need (even if its bad) and we can help you much better. If you conceal info, people will just get fed up with you (again i know from experience).

Give us some info and you'll feel much better, i promise you, and you might learn some stuff too.

If i've got this totally wrong, please excuse me. It just reminds me of a former me. Does that make sense?

OK.

What filter do you have?

How often do you do water changes?

How much water do you change each time?

How many fish do you have in there and what are they?

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers and chin up :good:

BTT

If you don't tell the truth we can't help.
There no need for lies to be honest if you want help tell the truth, and save your fish, simpe as that.
