Dennis fins are really ripped up!
Yesterday I changed his water from a bettafix treatment, and it was fine. After I did the change I decided I wanted to give him a little cave to curl up in, so I got an empty bottle of Mistolin (A mopping detergent) and cut off the end. I rinsed it for like, ten minutes with hot and cold water. I put it in, and the next morning I saw the water cloudy, so decided to change it later,(I was busy). I later found his fins ripped, and I super quickly transfered him into a cup of fresh water. He is eating normally, and behaveing normally too. I took the thing out and changed the water......
Here are some pics.

Im worried...

Mopping detergent bottle? Why didn't you use a water bottle or something of that sort, to be on the safe side?

It looks to me like he has black on the very edge of his fin. That could be natural color or a sign that he has damage from ammonia. I would treat him for fin rot, by whatever method you feel comfortable with. Clean water is the most important, if you use a filter take out the charcoal when you treat him and usually increasing the temp helps.

ANYONE!!!!!
It spread onto his anal fin, but on the caudal fin it looks like someone took scissors and loosly cut some of the trailing fins.
Should I change the water? Is it bactireal?
HELP!!!! :(

Clean water is the most important thing. You can use Maracyn and Maracyn II for medicine. It probably is bacterial.

My tail chewer is a lot worse than that, he doesn't listen when I tell him to stop chasing his tail.

It;s probably just fin rot. If goews too far and gets to the body, then yes, it is life threatening.
Try getting some betta fix or melafix, it should help. Some aquaium salt as well.

Currently I'm treating my Betta with a 5-day dose of Maracyn and Maracyn 2. My understanding is that Bettafix Remedy is best used after a treatment for infected fins, to help with re-growth, or for a case of mild fin rot. I'm definitely not an expert, but I can tell you I'm having success with the treatment thus far.

Good luck to you, and keep us posted!

Im going to petco today, and ill get smore bettafix, Ill get Maracyn one and two. And some more conditioner, im running out.
EDIT: I got Maracyn one and two, conditioner, and aquarium salt! I found it and I really wanted some.

If it looks like it is spreading as fast as you say it is, you'll definitely want to use the Maracyn 1 & 2 (M&M2) They work together on almost all bacteria since one hits the gram + and one hits the gram - bacteria. Make sure you do at least a 5 day course of the M&M2. If he is still not looking too great, you can do another 5 day treatment after a 100% water change. When using M&M2, expect the water to look very cloudy and keep the tank away from sunlight and other bright light since that breaks down one of the antibiotics. Make sure you follow the recommended dosage. If you have a filter with a carbon or charcoal pad, remove the pad since that takes the meds out of the water.

You should notice that the spread of the rot has stopped after treating for a day or 2, but keep up the full course of meds to make sure you get all the bacteria.

After the course of M&M2, you can do a 100% water change and use a half dose or so of Bettafix to help his fins heal and prevent re-infection. Aquarium salt also helps prevent infection.

Good luck! It sounds like you have caught it in time. It looks nasty, but with this treatment it is usually cured quickly.

Skimmed through, so not sure if someone else said this, but get that bottle out of that tank! No matter how well you rinse, you cannot be sure that you've removed all traces of that detergent.

I did the minute I found out his fins were torn. I took him out of the tank, and changed the tankwater again. (I left it out)
Im going to do the M&M2 treatment now. Its going no more into his fins, but it only cut off some of the trailing. :good:
EDIT: Oops, I spoke too soon... Its going more, but slower.
I hope this works! :hyper: By the way, thanks for keeping on looking into this. I really appreciate it.

He's still pumping after his third treatment. The tank water is REALLY cloudy, but I assume this is normal. I havent opened the blinds closest to his tank and havent turned on the tank light, I guess im paranoid...

Maracyn will make the water really cloudy, don't worry about that. Just keep doing the treatment, as recommended.
