Went to my local fish shop again on Friday and got 3 velvet blue shrimps. The guy in the shop said 'he's a beautiful one which is carrying eggs'

I'm just wondering but what happens during this period of this female shrimp? This is the first time I've got a shrimp carrying eggs so would like some advice about how long it'll take for her to give birth and shrimplet survival. I have 6 cardinal tetras which dont bother them including 2 amanos and 3 cherry shrimps.

You literally do nothing. The shrimplets will be fine without much care at all. I would make sure there are plenty of plants and mosses. Moss balls help too.

Shrimp usually carry the eggs 20-40 days before hatching. No way to predict how long.

While your Cardinal Tetras will leave the adult shrimp alone they will eat the baby shrimp.

Thanks guys :)
I've noticed she likes to hide a lot. I have this piece of bogwood with java fern attached which is where I'd normally see her. There are some nice hiding places between the ferns stems and under the bogwood. I have java moss attached to a large red Moor piece in my tank so there are some bits with a lot of crevices.

Water parameters are really good thankfully with just only the nitrates slightly rising in 3 weeks set up.

When you stop seeing eggs don't panic if it takes a week or more before you spot any shrimplets. I was quiet convinced I had lost my first lot until my next water change, then some came out although they were tiny. Within hours they had all disappeared. I assumed they had been eaten but by the following week's water change they re-appeared. Best thing is just leave them to it.

One of my cherries now is carrying eggs. From what I can tell 2 of them are female so the father must be one of the velvet blues I have. Luckily saw her during my water change. They really know how to hide
