help with new peppered cory's

hi. please can some 1 help. I am new to tropicl fish keeping. I have 4 platys and a couple of rummy nose tetras and and have now just added 2 peppered corys to my tank.
until now the other fish have all got on fine but now the peppers seem to be chasing any fish that come near them. the rummys seem very agitated.
Is this normal for peppers? I thought they got on ? im feeding flakes at the moment , should i give the peppers this?

I wouldnt worry, I cant imagine they would do you other fish any harm, they are maybe just playing, Ive never known a corrie to be aggressive anyway.

As for food you should get some catfish pellets or sinking wafers for them, I use the king british catfish pekllets and the tetra variety wafers, mine love them.

If you can, try to get another Corrie, best in groups of 3 or more.

What size tank do you have? Cories can be very active fish and they may not be chasing so much as just swimming in their fast spazzing way. Mine do defend their favorite foods tho, they dont do anybody any harm just jerk around in a terrifying way to keep the other fish away. They usually are happier in groups, but really depends on your tank size no fish is happier overcrowded.

You can also try Tetra Tabimin catfish tablets; mine hated the King British catfish pellets but go mad over the tablets. They also like a bit of variety (bloodworm, peas etc).

Corys also need hiding places- have they got anything like a cave or piece of bogwood in the tank?

If you are USA, top of the line in everything I've tried is Hikari. I think Tony Blair et al neglected a Japanese trade agreement or something for the UK. There are shrimp pellets that everyone loves and algae wafers if you are lazy like me. Two won't eat much of them. I break off pieces. Feed after lights out. They may get more.

Do make sure they have hideouts. They can get under almost anything.

Definately EVERYONE comes out for bloodworms.

I have a little of everything. I pick snacks up on sale.

But in the end they always chose Hikari over everything.

thanks for the advice. I have a 3 foot tank with plants and bog wood so they should be happy.
I will try feeding them with pellets.
should i feed at the same time as i feed the others . At the moment i do this every other morning?

Like I said although the cories eat during the day they also get active at night. Dropping in a sinking pellet or two or a sinking wafer will give them an edge.

If you are feeding every other day it will get eaten. Find what they like--if it's gone before it disolves, they like it. Then add a little variety.

Have sinking omnivore wafers and some kind of herbal (cooked peas and cucumbers are good) as the staples. I often have to take out the veggies, before they are gone. But they all need their pipes cleaned. I often just use a piece of algae wafer once a week. There are usually veggies in the omnivore wafers, I believe.

That about feeding every other morning may be why they are acting cranky. There may not be much food getting to them at the bottom. And although they are bottom feeders, they aren't really scavengers. They need to have food get to the bottom for them.

how long have you had this tank set up I just realized I forgot to ask. Corys can be sensitive to anything off in the tank.
What kind of filter are you using?
Do you have a test kit?
If so what are all you stats?
Did you cylce your aquarium before adding the fish?

I would say with all the fish you have feed them once a day.

corys do better in groups of 3 plus

rummy nose tetra should really be in groups of 6 plus at they school tightly and will be really stressed if you only have 2

I have pepper cories in with guppies and tetras. Guppies can be really pugnacious about bulling in and hogging all the food. Well my cories literally SIT on the shrimp pellets so the guppies can't get at them. It's quite hilarious to watch. They even put their side fins down so the guppies can't snatch any. I even saw one of the cory females budge a large piggy of a guppy female out of the way with a nose bump on its tail area once, just pushed it aside abit like a bulldozer. They've never been aggressive but they do love playing, darting around and they are quite capable of hanging onto their food if they need to.

thanks to every one. I went and got some catfish tablets and my peppers seem much happier. tho im finding that the platys and rummys are very keen on the the catfish tablets as well and seem quite content to eat their own food then push the peppers off and eat theirs as well!! I tried feeding the peppers in the dark but the others soon found it. any tips??
