Help With Mbu!

Hi,

I have got a (much smaller) mbu, he tends to confine himself to the right hand side of the tank also, however I've noticed that he isn't keen on the bubbles that are produced from the Ario that I have and he doesn't seem to like swimming in them. Well that's not strictly true, he did like it for a short while and he'd take a mouthful of the bubbles and burp them back out again - very strange behaviour. Anyway, I've turned the bubbles down a bit and thats made a difference.

I've also noticed that he swims in more of the tank when he is hungry, I presume that he is scanning for food.

How long has he been like this for? If nothing is showing on your water test, the only thing I can suggest is to take a sample of your water to a local aquatics expert for further testing who may be able to detect a trace of something that the home tests can't. Perhaps someone else on this forum may be able to comment on this further, but it's something that I've always done in the past.

If he is his usual colour, is eating ok and still seems active in his corner, then the only think I can think of is that he doesn't like something about the otherside of the tank - have you tried moving plants or objects around to see if that makes a difference?

let me know how he gets on - very handsome puffer by the way.

I guess it's certainly possible. I know some puffers can be very territorial and this may be one way that he's marking out his territory?
:fish:

maybe its another fish it doesnt like and its keeping clear?

None of the fish really ocupy that part of the tank regularily, the most packed area of the tank is the bit that he likes, I guess it could be the spray bar from the external filter that he doesn't like. I will submerge the spray bar and see if that helps.

i have certain fish that will only occupy one spot in there tank
as long as your water quality is spot on i wouldnt worry maybe its just like us having a favourite spot on the sofa

Thats good way of thinking about it, It's just that I'm gonna be cheesed if he pulls the same stunt in his new 200 gal £1,000 home

coz it so small atm its probably quite happy in his own little area in the tank.once its a big fish im guessing it will use all the room you can offer it.
you can get a 200gallon tank for a lot cheaper than a grand btw

my fish all seem to hit one central spot in my 38 also.... like, a certain tank section...

it could be due to the position og the heater also.where is it in your tank

it may be.what size tank will the heater heat?i usually get the next size up.like say i have a 10 gal.ill get a heater that will heat 15
