Hello,

I just bought a small internal filter to provide additional/secondary filtration and air for my 30 gallon tank. However. whenever I start it up, water flows up and out of the airhose! I've checked the filter and nothing seems to be blocked...does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? This is my first tank so I could well be overlooking something basic!

Thanks!

need to know the, exact, filter your using. but, there is no need to blow air into a filter, though some filters give that, useless, option.

It is a Sobo 177F internal filter. I live in Bangkok so I am not sure if this brand is available in other parts of the world. It says it is fully submersible. Max flow 600Litres per hour, which I believe is about 150 gallons.

You said in your reply that the air hose is a useless option - sorry i don't understand the mechanics - wouldn't the air that should be coming down through the intake hose and out through the output be useful for adding oxygen to the tank?

Thanks.

The way an eductor type aerator works is that high flows pass next to a suction tube and that causes the pressure to drop and draw in air from the surface. If you do not have a smooth water passage where the air line is connected, you will not get that pressure drop, so no air. If you managed to get the flow from your filter to impinge on that area, it will indeed flow backward through the air tube. Please check and make sure you have everything put together the way the instructions tell you to do.
