Hi, I currently have an Interpet PF2 internal filter that i got with my tank, I have noticed recently that it doesnt seem to aerate the air at the top of the tank as much as it used to, I have never changed the filter media (the sponge bit?) as I thought that would get rid of the bacteria? I do give it a rinse in the bucket of tank water when im doing a water change though. Do I need to get a new filter? Or do I just need to put in a new sponge bit? There is a space were the charcoal filter was, could I insert another sponge media in there or would that be too much?? Thanks for your help! :)

dont replace your sponges unles stehya re fallign apart or not fitting teh holder anymore

the only one you will need to replace is the carbon [black one] and thats usually every month, but some dont even both using it as it is only used for cleaning up the water clarity and getting ris of meds

have you cleaned the impellor?

whats the impellor?? lol sorry!

s'okay =]

in the top of the filter pf2 link above the white ceramic media you will be able to dismantle the rest of it, underneath teh flow control and bits will be one of these roughly the same thing take it out and clean it, be very careful with teh ceramic shaft though they can break pretty easy

I would say clean the impeller once a month just as a precaution

The impeller is the bit that spins which causes the filter to suck, they need taking out occasionally and cleaned or even replaced if worn, i dont know how the impeller comes out on your filter as i'm not familiar with interpet filters, have you got instruction for the filter, if not try the interpet website.
