Somebody here will have the answer, picked up around 20 Electric Yellow Fry . 3 of them are as picture 1 the rest are like picture 2. I assume the ones in picture 1 are a throw back??. Has anybody else seen this.
That's what I thought, Kind of interestingAre you sure they are electric yellows?
I'm pretty sure there is a dark blue colour form of the electric yellow cichlid (Labidochromis caeruleus) and it could be that. Or the babies could be hybrids with another species of mbuna cichlid.
As a general rule, if you don't have cichlids in a single species tank, then you don't keep the fry because they could be hybrids.
Your best bet is to grow them up and see what they turn into.
Thanks, I'm happy with them most of them will be rehomed eventuallyThey are nice looking fish, I gave away almost all my cichlid fry after the grew enough.
