how can i wipe off the little pebbles?

its been set up maybe 6 months or something?
temperatures at around 80 (which is high, but what can i really do about it? its hot here right now)

i've been drastically reducing the time of light i leave on a day to like 6-8 hours maybe? before, i had screwed up and gone to the bar one night and ended up staying in a hotel and my light was left on for a total of like 1 3/4 days straight.. which is when it (the algae) showed up..

Read up on reliable algae eaters. U have the net so have a look around or ask a lfs for their advice.... 1 piece of advice from me though.... change your lfs from the once that sold u the individual barb!

Just don't clean your fish with soap and water like some newbies on the board have been instructed to.

You guys are soo freakin' funny!!! Duckdown comes in screaming at everyone. Seeing you guys go back and forth trying to get the upper hand in a support forum... I know I can always come here to see people act like kids. Anyways, here's what I know about the rust colored algae. Leave the light on longer and it will go away. (There's also a possibility you are feeding too much and/or your nitrate is high.) Just leave the light on and in a day or 2 all of it will be gone. I normally give mine 10-12 hours of light a day. At first I had the algae problem till I left the light on longer .
