Hello

I have about 8 snails in my tank and they keep having babys I want to buy a fish that will eat the snails.

1st. can you get one?
2nd. What is it called?
3rd. is there somthing I could put in the water like snail killer.?

Any help would be grate.

Thanks Grayshark

Any of the botia species will eat snails......for example clown loaches. These can grow quite large though and need to be kept in groups of at least 3. Other fish in this group don't get as big. I wouldn't recommend any snail killer remedies as in my experience they don't work and kill your plants.

Have a look at that link :)

When it comes to adding fish that will eat the snails, I dont think thats the best solution in your tank (if its the one in your signature that is) ... most botias that eat snails will just get too big for the tank, and puffers will not get along with your other fish causing injured fish ... I think you're best of removing fish the way is described in the link (ex. use cucumber or lettuce)

I have clown loaches AND zebra loaches in my tank and the zebra loaches are much better snail munchers than the clowns, although everyone else will say the clowns are better. Maybe it's because my clowns are still small and the zebras are more mature.

Either way they are lovely fish and fun to watch!

Oh, and I have a little freshwater puffer too who loves snails and these are good for keeping his beak trim.

puffers are notoriously mean. esp the true freshwater puffer, the indian dwarf puffers. i like the zebra and yo yo loaches
