Help! My Corys Have Laid Eggs...

They are getting beige... woohoo...

Day 5 tomorrow. Wish them (and me) luck!

Yah! 3 hatched so far. 2 swimming. 1 not doing much... hope it's not dead already.

When shall I start putting liquifry in?

Leave it for 24hrs,they feed off their egg sac for the first 24hrs,and adding liquidfry will only pollute the water...

I would advise to try not to use too much liquidfry(this is only fed for the first few days anyway) ,and opt for either decapsulated brine shrimp or fry products such has tetramin baby or firstbites :good:

Congrats on your wee fry, they wont do much for the first few days :)

Thanks.

I haven't seen tetramin baby or firstbites in my closest LFS (Maidenhead Aquatic). Might have to do a bit of driving and hunt for those.

A few more have popped. Found one in the main tank as well (as I have left some eggs in there to see how they would do. Isn't turkey baster a great tool for fishkeeping!?

On a more sombre note, my big tank is leaking. Not sure where from. I've drained 2/3 of the water as "first aid". The fishes are not happy but what can I do...

Pets@home sell tetramin baby :good: MA does sell a liquidfry powder food which tends to be better than the liquid form...

Turkey basters are fab :good:

Shame about your tank, has it stopped leaking since you drained it a little? ,might be worth putting some sealant around the top part if it has....

Been to the local Pets@Home today. They don't sell any thing for fries. I have no time to go to the other LFS until next weekend so they will have to settle with liquifry for now. Hope they don't mind!

My tank is not leaking now that I've drain a lot of water. I can't see any obvious leak but then the joints are hidden behind some plastic "bracket/cover". I'll have a look when I have more free time.

Thanks.

When shall I remove the unhatched eggs? Not quite turned completely white but it hasn't darken like others either. Day 6 today. Thanks.

Adrian

I just sucked out the unhatched eggs and dumped them in the mother-tank (see my photo in previous post). They actually looked pretty white so I doubt they will hatch. There may be one or two that is a bit clearer than the white ones but I will let nature take its course. If they hatch I'll save them if I can find them.

13 frys. If they all survive then I would have 19 3-lined corys. Hmmm....

Adrian

You did well with putting the unhatched ones back. Good luck with the fry; it is a nice number. Not too many, you can keep some yourself and the rest you sell to your local lfs or to another hobbyist.

Turkey baster is a wonderful tool for breeders!

Half the eggs disappeared overnight, with no new frys. Glad I got the fry tank!

Can anyone tell me whether Liquifry cause debris that looks like fine particles? As you see in my setup, I'm currently switching off the "pump" for the fry tank for an hour or so after putting the liquifry in. Otherwise it will be "filtered" out of the fry tank. I have no room to put the adult and I think they might eat the frys. I don't think Liquifry is design for tank like mine but I what can I do without other type of fry food. Again sucked out those particulates with the baster just in case they are actually from my peat ball.

So far so good. Counted 14 frys today. Maybe I can't count afterall!

Just keep an eye on your stats whilst using liquidfry, daily w/c are good to promote the growth of the fry and keep the water good. :good:

I did initially use liquidfry but i added 1 drop to a little tank water and used the turkey baster to put it near the bottom for the fry, therefore shouldn't float around the tank...

That was a nice log. Hopefully I will have a decent survival rate as well...

So far so good. Did a big water change in the "sump" tank yesterday. I'm relying on the "sump" tank to keep my water good. The fries seemed to be growing well. Certainly looked different from a few days ago. I bought the corys as "cleaners" for my tank. Now they are growing on me so much. Thinking about getting other corys, if only I have the space!

Wish them luck!
