hey does anyone have any ideas about whats up with my betta, i have had it in my tank for 3 weeks now with other fish and it has been fine, getting along with all others in tank. got up today and all its tail has gone it hasn't got fin rot etc and water ok tested it just in case. the others in the tank are balloon mollies platys and teters, anyone any ideas and should the tail grow back!

im guessing neon tetras??

they are fin nippers.. just cause they were getting along one day doesn't mean they will the next

can you give him his own tank?

hey, have put him in a hospital tank on his own, my hubby has just noticed that i have 2 black widow neons and that they are harrasing the others o could be them, will his tail grow back

yes his tail will grow back

you mean black widow tetras.. :)

how big is the hospital tank, and does it have heater/filter?

yep that what i meant  yes thge tank has heater and filter he just looks so sad is there any way i can help him recover faster and should i move the black widows out of community tank when i put him back

how big is the hospital tank?

his tail will grow back provided the water quality is good, you'll probably have to do small water changes throughout the week

the hopital tank is about a foot long by a foot high and wide?

quite a decent size then, is there any way you could perhaps leave him there as they don't do well in community tanks

yes could leave him in there, he was doing really well with the others till today, but will leave him in there and get him some new nicer friends any ideas what to put with him

i wouldn't add anything till his tail has healed but, dwarf cories, ottos and african dwarf frogs work well

thank you for all your help will leave him on his own and see what happens :good:

harlequin rasboras, possibly zebra danios..

i wouldn't add anything til hes healed

also you should probably only half fill his tank til he is healed, so he doesnt have to swim a long way for air

thats if he looks as though hes struggling.. :X

Hey mawy, sorry to hear about your Betta loosing its tail, I know this is my first post but I thought I'd let you know my experiences so far with community tanks and Bettas. I have got my Betta in a community tank with zebra danios, platies and neons. My Betta was nipped by the danios for a couple of days but after a few days they left him alone. Despite what I have read on this forum the neons have stayed well away and the platies couldn't have cared less. A month passed with no problems and a happy Betta getting on with his tankmates.
Only recently my mrs bought a couple more platies, male and female, and they have been nipping at him non stop. I'm keeping a very close eye on him but I can't afford another tank so I'm looking to get a divider to keep him on his own as I hate to see the poor guy suffer
A friend of mine has told me that bottom feeders would be better tankmates like corys. As I've read on here it does depend on what your Betta is like.
