Help Me Id This Pleco

Its definatly not L66 or L260 as I used to have these when they were juveniles and never were they black and yellow so its def L333, in fact it looks like my current baby L333's
Also I would like to add the water can range from 24-30 degrees

i dont keep any of my hypans or peckolitia below 29c i spoke to several breeders and other people who confirmed this is the best temp to keep them at.

Saying for definite that's is 333 is completely an utter wrong when it comes to juveniles, 260, 333, 66, 340 infact most juvenile hypan species are indistinguible at juvenile stage simply becasue they all look the same, as on many accounts do 134 which isn't even a hypan species.

The temp range you gave can infact be given, ideally it shouldn't and low to mid 80's is what you should be aiming for to keep them in tip top condition and thrive.

I will admit the fish in question is probably not a 260 becasue of the size and i stated that after size was given. as to yellow and black, many people including me have had yellow based 66's as have many will say they have white based 333 so giving a definitive ID becasue of colour is completely wrong and shouldn't have been said. Infact ive also had more of a yellowy based 260 so just goes to show how IDing juvenile hypans isn't as easy as just saying yes for sure it is either this species or that species.

That may just be you, in my case, my L260 and my trio of L66 were always a pure white and black. Im saying things from personal experiance. You may know this but in their natural habitat, their water isnt always a constant 29 degrees, during the seasons it ranges from 24-30 degrees. During the year, I change the temp to try to simulate their habitat, no breeding yet though.

It is far from just me, ive kept in excess of 50-60 L66 plecs, 30-40 L333, and more than 40 L260 and these fish are not including 1000's of fry with them so i assure you very much that it's from my personal experience, aswell as experiences from far more experienced keepers than me. Ive kept plecs now for about 18 years or so and seen all sorts of different colouration's of the same fish, just becasue your '3' L66 and a single L260 were white and black, it has no comparison against thousands of others, so by saying from experience that the fish in question is 333 becasue you have had 4 fish which are black and white is actually quite funny and i dont mean that in a nasty way but you cant compare thousands and thousands of fish from a mere 4 fish you have kept.

On the season range of temps, i never said it had to be 29 degrees i gave ideal temps and what is better for the plec, unfortunately though mimicking wild isn't really necessary, dropping the water a few degree's after conditioning the fish to breed may entice them a little better but it's air pressure with it which will have far better results.

I change the temp to try to simulate their habitat, no breeding yet though.

You mentioned in a previous thread you were getting some tiny plecs?, why are you trying to encourage them to breed when there not old enough?. I'm a little confused now becasue it cant be the 66's or the 260's becasue you referred to having them before and not still currently having them?.

Anyways i think the thread is going a little off topic now and i think the OP has been given the answer he wanted :good: .

To the OP, good luck with the plec mate, very very nice markings and a lovely looking thing :)

Basically in the past, I've had some L66 and a L260 in a tank that I don't have anymore , now since then I have bought a trio of baby L333 for my new tank which have grown. I don't really know about how to breeding the L333 or any plecos infect. TBH I think you should stay on topic Jake.
