Funny how things turn out, was admiring Markandhisfish Discus pics today and it seems my tank will be free as of tomorrow as someone is buying my 9 red belly piranhas which just having grabbed me

All these different set ups have been going through my mind over last few yrs and in recent weeks. If only I had the space and tanks to keep them all

It was definately going to be clown loach till I saw Marks discus tank and I had a longing for one of thos again

Help

I will always go with this..lol
but you have done this already and problem is you get itchy feet

what about a nice channa pluero with oscars/bala's/ornate birchir/silver dollar/pink tailed chalues :shifty:

I've been considering setting up a new clown loach/congo tetra river tank recently. If you found piranhas boring, this should be a refreshing change.

I would say expand on the Clown Loach and Congo Tetra theme, go for a full-on African river biotope!

  • Butterfly fish
  • Alestes Tetra
  • Yellow-tailed Congo Tetra
  • Distichodus species (single as not social?)
  • Bushfish
  • Filter Shrimp
  • Debauwi catfish
  • Lionhead Cichhlid
  • Thomasi Dwarf Cichlid
  • Spiny eel
  • Transvestite Cichlid (? Only reach ~5cm but they are supposed to punch above their weight. Might leave lasting impression on others if everything bought as babies, so as adults they remember this fiesty little fish)
  • Syndontis catfish
  • African Barb
  • Harlequin shark (single specimen, my fave LFS has a tank of these, but not researched them yet... WOULD NEED GOOD COMPATABILITY CHECK, as can be bullies and they grow to ~15cm
  • Knife fish
  • Tilapia
  • etc. etc.

good suggestion although if I did this I'd go for just about 10 cloewn loach about 10 congos and maybe a butterflyfish

My vote would be for .. none of the above.

I would base it around either 3 or 4 severums or a small shoal of Uaru.
I have only recently seen happy, settled Uaru in their tank, and what a delight ! Really peaceful, but not boring at all (like Discus  ). The Uaru were continually grazing around the tank, and simply providing something interesting to look at all the time. I go for character and interest over beauty any day (you'd see why if you met my wife !).
Sevs are, I'm sure, pretty well known to you.

For bottom level interest, personally, I like Geos at the moment, but clown loaches would be fine (yes, I know they aren't from thev same continent, but who cares, it's not exactly natural anyway is it). With a bristlenose or two to keep algae at bay.
I've given up with plecos as main features in a tank, as they are generally just too nocturnal, and hide too much.

Whatever, it's a lovely sized tank to be able to play around with !!

or just set up another S/W!

btw, if it were me i'd go for Discus, they make stunning set ups.

Im torn between the rainbowfish tank and the Oscar/fire eel tank, so I didnt vote, but I think in the end, it would be the Oscars for me :)

I know Discus are pretty an all, but they just seem so boring to me, Id go with personality every time as opposed to looking good and just wafting around fish.

lol @ wafting around fish!

you might as well just put some leaves in ya tank and watch em waft around.

Well they do, just kinda sit there and do nothing much, not that Ive ever kept any, but even in large display tanks Ive seen them in, they dont do anything. Its all down to personal choice of course :)

discus dont have to be boring . its all down to the individual fish at the end of the day . check these fellas out !

my discus are quite shy still so there is no way of telling how their character will come out yet, altho the gold rams more than make up for it they are hilarious .

 I know you like them  In the end it has to be whatever the individual likes, I guess Ive gotten used to interactive/bolshy fish.
