Ok i went on holiday and since we have been back our 4 gourami's have been acting wierd.

Stats all fine. 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 40-60ppm nitrAte (This is about normal straight from the tap) PH is 8.4 (This is tap level...)

2 opalines are swimming and eating but do flick from time to time. and dive to the surface eraticly at times

2 pearls are not so active. most of the time they sit at the surface and not do much they will feed but not much and seem uninterested in the food most of the time. I have seen them flick but not often at all. they do swim for about 1 hour aday or so.

On none of them is there any spots growths clouding ETC the only othe symptom (Not sure which are doing it.) White poo.

Any ideas on what to do. im not a fan of meds but will try if needed.

Oh there are 2 common pleco's in the tank and also our RTBS was dead when we came home from hols.....

Ideas pleas.

Thanks

Long stringy white poo, constipation could be that if only been fed flakes, bacterial, to internal parasites.
Check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Check the gills to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

just a question wilder, how do u cheak the fishes gills? i've never been able to (unless the fish was dead  )

but about your PH it seems relitivly high, gouramis tend to like 6-8, you have 8.4 comming out of our tap, im not sure but u might want to invest in some PH down to get the PH in your tank to 7.5-8.
just a thought

shang hi

The poo is not stringy and they are fed on flakes 5 days a week with a break in between of peas and frozen. so there on flakes only 2-3 days at a time.

The anus does not look red and there is no inflamations or abnomalites on gills or body..... Its really hard for me to diagnose because of this..... they are flicking but on plant leaves only (Not the wood) and only a few times not continuous or every day.

As to my PH i know it is high but i refuse to use a chemical to bring it down as it could cause fluctuations and more issues. i might invest in some bog wood in the future to help lower it though.

Does the body on the fishs look like there producing more slime coat.
Any pale patches or dusting on the fish.
Fish do flick accasionaly usually sometimes after a water change.
Added anything different to the tank.

This is exactly what has been happening to my Rams!

I made a thread about htis (see below).

Can anyone offer advice as to this illness?

Nothing new in the tank

After a change they are normaly all hiding except one that seems to love geting hit by the pouring bucket..... (Strange one....)

Its really confusing me there is NOTHING abnormal on the fish. no slime , dusting nothing.... its realy wierd. Im not wanting to dose a chemical for no reason.

I want that fish tank.....

I keep seeing this term and I'm a bit of a newbie, and don't know what it means.....

"Flicking"

What does fish flicking mean?

What do the fish gills look like are the pale with excess mucas on them or red and inflamed.
What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
