Hello all, you probably get hundreds of theses questions, But i am considering Switching to marine. I have a 25G that i am hoping stock with marine life, but i haven't a clue where to start. So i was wondering if you could point me towards a thread, containing information on the switch?

At the moment i have a fluval 205, is this adequate filtration? Also would i need a skimmer/what skimmer would you recommend?
I am planning on buying Ro water from my lfs, how often will i need to change the water and what percentage?
What are the things i am missing completely? (would i need powerheads ect)
Could you advise me on live rock, i was thinking in the reign of 10kg?
Also what sort of fish would you recommend for this tank?

Thanks for putting up with a newbie, and his questions! Sorry!

Matt

Hi Matt and congrats to atleast thinking about making the swap, if you do you will wnder why you didnt do it 10 years ago ;)

Have a look through the journals on here, that way it will give you an idea of what you actally want.

Fish only with live rock, or corals, do you want an anemone, etc etc this way you will get more educated replies to the kit you need. That way you can plan and budget accordingly.

Marines also take a lot longer to set up than fw so patience is a must before anything else :)

Not answered any of your questions lol but hopefully this will put you on the right road to start :)

Cheers!

Thanks again for the reply, i have looked at a few journals and most people seem to start with live rock, is this because it is easier to keep? i would like corals, but my lighting at the moment is not the best! I have also looked at the anemone as much as i love how they look, it sound hard to keep, and i read only introduced after 12months of running? So i think i will stick with the trend and go for live rock?
I hope i'm on the right path with this? I hope i have the patience to do this and see it through as i am really keen of fish keeping, and i want to make the next step. Also i have my other 2 Fw tanks to keep my occupied when it doesn't need any maintenance!

Need to get my head down, but basically in marines the liverock is your filter.

Hopefully someone else will answer the rest of you questions :)

:hi: to the salty side of the forum :good:

What lighting do you currently have, I keep bubbletips under 4 x t5 54w lights, so it is do-able without vast amounts of light, however many other nems need much more light.

Looking forward to watching your progress

Ozzie, I will turn the control up to full, lets see who that pulls in!! If Carlover has a steel plate, we will probably have to send the boys round instead :p

To be honest, I have no idea! I have just opened up the hood of my tank, i only have 1 bulb is this a problem? The bulb is a Arcadia FF-15 15W bulb. is this going to be a problem? I guess it is not powerful enough?

Well, if you only keeping fish and live rock 'fowlr' then its not a problem, but you have mentioned anemones, so assume you would like corals?

I have just checked you tank size, and although after approx eight months and with the correct amount of lighting, you could keek a bubble, it would need at least two, marine white t5, then you could keep a small bubble tip for about six months before it became too big for the tank. I did so in an orca 550 which is of a similar size

I would like to keep corals, but i would like to get the basics of the marine environment sorted fist! So say after a year could I start introducing corals? What corals would you recommend? I really like the look of the bubble tip, but are there any corals i could keep permanently?

Thanks for your help!
