We've had a small 4 gallon tank for a few years now. At one point we moved up to a 20 gallon tank, but after checking our apartment rules and finding it wasn't permitted we had to revert to the 4 gallon.

We've mostly had guppies, though snails were in the mix until they started laying eggs like crazy.

Happy to be here!

Welcome to the Tropical Fish Forum . There’s a lot you can do with a small aquarium . It takes some reading and asking around but there are many very small fish that will thrive in a small aquarium . Don’t feel limited because this only tests your resourcefulness .

Welcome! I keep nano tanks although 4 gallons is smaller than mine. It doesn't leave much wiggle room, potentially useful for shrimp/snails.

Hi & welcome to TFF... :hi:
Besides that this size tank is suitable for shrimps and snails, this size can also hold a number of nano fish. But do some reading about them for even there are nano fish, a number of them do need sufficient swimming space. But if I were you, I'd go for the more timid ones. For those don't need that much space to thrive well.
