Hello Again...hello!

I am really hoping that is the case.

On the plus side it has given me the time to do two things. 1.Shop around and pick up some real fleabay bargains and 2. Plan to a ridiculous level how it is all going to go together and how i want the system to work.

Unfortunately as i have completed both those things i am now itching to get going with it.

oh i forgot the 3rd point... 3. Watch all 99 episodes of The La Fish Guy on youtube - looking forward to episode 100!

so heres my new problem...

Looks like i am going to bemoving in to my lovely girlfriends house. (thats not the problem by the way )

Where we are looking to put the tank (well the only place it will go) is not quite level. The house is rented so i can not just pull the carpet up and straighten the ground up. Was thinking about wedging something underneth but i am concerened that in doing so i will ruin the structural integrity of the set up.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get round this?

Could you make a slight platform to stand the tanks stand on? Or make a new stand that compensates for the uneven floor?

I was thinking the platform route as i am no way confident enough with DIY to make a cabinet.

Only problem is if i just slide a piece of wood under there will be a part of the tank that wont be caonnecting to the floor unless the piece of ood is sloped to counter the floor slope?

or do u think that ill be ok?

ive got some carpet squares which i think will do the trick. Going to have to wait till the morning to find out when a kind gentleman across the road is going to come over and give me a hand to move the tank. Oh boy its heavy. Looking forward to getting it into place then the fun of plumbing and rigging it up can begin.

BIt of an update...

The tank is finally in its position, the carpet along with some anti-slip pads have done the trick of making it level.

looking forward to plumbing her up after i've moved over to the house later this week.

Well today was a good day…

I have had a lot of uncertainty in the last couple of weeks due to work but today I have put them to rest by successfully getting a new job which is much better than my old one!

Furthermore I have had the time and clear mind to put some work in on my plumbing…

Managed to get my return pump plumbed using flexible hose. There is a picture but it was taken on my iPhone so apologies about the quality. Plumbed up my return pump to my UV steriliser which runs to fixed piping feeding back in to the main tank.



Also I have put in place my heater, skimmer and rather large micron sock that I will only be running for a short time to collect all the debris involved in initial set up before replacing the space in that area with lots of live rock rubble and possibly some cheato.

I have also measured and welded together the drain pipe to fit from the pvc pipe that the previous owner has welded to the bulk head. Going to weld that in place either tomorrow or Sunday and give it the sink or swim test.

Was quite fun actually, considering this is my first attempt at plumbing im pretty pleased with it but I wont get to cocky until I’ve actually tested it with water.

Another package arrived today to…

Lots of sand.

I have also managed to secure around 40 – 50kg of live rock from a guy on a different forum which I will be picking up on Thursday so between now and Thursday I need to get the system up and running. Its from a massive 12 foot tank that has been set up for around 8 years so im very hopeful that it will be good quality rock.

Ive just realised this thread should really be in the journal section of the marine part so if a mod wants to move it over be my guest.

Oh I also managed to affix a little LED light in my cabinet so I can see what I am doing!

No progress today as i have been moving all my posessions from one city to another. I did however manage to speak to the guy that has live rock for me and it sounds very promising, picking up on thursday so prepare yourself for some pictures then

Quick update today and i am sorry but no pictures either

Managed to weld in my return piping from the picture above. The only joint i didnt check in there was the one that leaked so whipped it out and replaced. I have also managed to mount power strips inside the cabinet for the endless amounts of plugs i have amassed, and labelled each one accordingly

Thats all for today, should be getting wet tomorrow tho!

Quick question...

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a plug timer that doesnt extrude over the next socket on a 4-way extension?

Im hooking up elecrics to my cabinet and have mounted some 4-ways but every timer i see is so big that when you plug it in to the socket it blocks off the use of the socket next to it.
I need all the sockets and dont really want to put any more in as there is a lot in there already but want my lights to run on timers which is 3 plugs so really dont want to use 6 sockets just so i can plug 3 timers in.

EDIT: Ive decided to bite the bullet and add more plugs, you never know i might need them in the future for something else
