What's the lowest wattage you can get on heaters? I'm pretty sure its 25w.. Is there anywhere online I can buy one? The lowest one in the LFS are 50w - and I'm not wanting to do a long distance journey for a heater. I read somewhere a heat mat would work, but the ones in the LFS were 8.5w and I don't see how that can go through the glass of a tank, through the substrate(gravel) and heat the water. I used to own a leopard gecko, and that's what was used in his tank - but I would think it would be different with water?

I can't think of the name of it, but i have a little 25 watt heater that I use in my fry tanks. It easily does for my little 5 gal acrylic tank.

Edit - Found it, click the pic.

i have a 12 watt heater, it came with my tank (frf-555 if you wanna check it out :good: )

I've been looking at this for some time now as my mother-in-law got a very small coldwater 6 litre and gave it to me. The smallest heater ive found so far is a 7.5 watt from the U.S

I have the same but for my 15 gal, and the loweswt I saw at the stores was for 10gals. I haven't found a heater for smaller tanks at the lfs' either.

The reason I'm looking for a 25w instead of 50-55w is because with the latter, the water is far too warm. My house is unbelievably warm, the fish probably wouldn't really need a heater - but I prefer them to so that there is no fluctuation in the temperature. Even in the community tank the 50w heater has to be turned down yet the water will stay up between 25-27 celsius.

Those are ok for really small tanks and in a slightly larger tank can take the ambient temp up, but there is no heat control on them so if the room is really warm you have to rely on a thermostat to check the water temp all the time.
