Heaters

I've been using Jager heaters for years and I really like the reliability of them. The only time I ever had one die on me was in a 10gallon tank in a very cold basement, so I was very much overworking the heater.

The only thing I can say is they seem to tend to overshoot their setting. I'll have it set for 77 and the water will stay locked at 81 or so. is there a way to calibrate them back to normal?

A very common problem with in tank glass heaters and one reason I won't use them anymore but I have options here that I am not sure are available in the USA.

Calibration is not possible without breaking the seals and opening it up ..... not recommended, is the 81 what you want ? if not why not turn down the heater a bit who cares what it is set to providing it is controlling where you want it too.

Actually, with the Jagers, there's a knob on top that allows you to recalibrate the heater. All you have to do is pull up on it(it may be alittle hard to, I know that mine took abit effort), and then turn the temperature knob to what the temperature of the tank is at. Once you do that, push the knob back down and voila, it should be recalibrated!

I had the same problem with my Jager where it heated the tank to 80F when I had it set on at 77F. It actually is taking a couple of tries with mine though. The first recalibration had it too low, so when the water was 76F the heater still didn't come on. I'm on my second recalibration and so far it looks like it's more accurate. If I turn the temperature dial past the temperature of the water, the heater comes on. I've yet to test just leaving it and seeing if it'll turn on when the water gets cold though because we're in a heatwave and the tank has been hovering at about 80-82F these past few days.
