I am wanting to get a betta, and have got a spare 25 litre tank, which I worked out is 5.5 Uk gallons (I think!)

I posted inthe betta section earlier, although didn't get replies, but have since found out some of the stuff I wanted to know!

I read that a tank under 5 gallons, can't be heated as it will overheat. Should I get a heater for this tank for the betta? Or will it be ok without? If I do need one what size, and how much roughly would it cost me?

Well, I'm not sure about where you are, but I have seen small 25W heaters for $5. Definately get a heater with a temp control knob on it. A heater should regulate the tank to the temperature you set it to... not overheat the tank, unless you've set it too high or it's faulty. Bettas are tropical so I would definately get a heater and not rely on the ambient room temp; a drop in temp or a fluctuation could make your betta sick.

Ok thanks, I was going to get a heater, but then read its dangerous in very small tanks! I'm from UK. I'll have a look at the lfs and find a small heater, shouldn't be too expensive hopefully! Spent so much money on the main tank!

25w heater will be fine, it has a themostat in it so it will turn off if the water is at or above the temperate you've set the heater to.
