Hi,

Ive got a Rena Smart 200 heater which has worked fine with no problems, last week i bought the next size up the Rena Smart 300 heater which is playing up. I done some research on the Rena Smart and it seems to be a common problem so i will be sending it back.

Now what is the best or a decent heater?

Thanks Darren.

If your Rena Smart 200 has been working fine, why do you want a new heater?

Thought someone might ask this, because ive got a new tank coming and i will need more heaters as the 200 wont be enough.

Thanks Again Darren.

If you are getting a external filter it may be good to look at external heaters. Similarly with a undergravel heater, as these do better in larger aquariums.

Wow, that's a big tank!

For a tank as big as that I would advise you run two powerful heaters, this will ensure the heat is evenly distributed and not only one side of the tank is heated.

I rather like the Fluval M Series heater as they are mirrored therefore they easily blend in with your tanks design. I would say to get two 300W Fluval M Series heaters which will cost you around £40.

Others may disagree.

Yeah ive currently got a Fluval Roma 240 so the 550 litre should be a nice upgrade for my fish.

Not to keen on the Fluval M Series heater, ive had a Fluval heater and my Big oscars broke it thats why i have a Rena Smart as its tough.

Yeah im planning on running my current 200w heater and a new 300w heater in the 550 litre tank.

I might try an external heater.

Thanks Again Darren.
