He/She's a survivor!

i started this hobby a year ago this month. i still ahve ONE of my first batch of fish (before i knew about cycling and new tank syndrome). she survived that and a two batches of fish after her. she's a marbled lyretail molly i've named Big Mama (she's bigger than any molly i've seen other than sailfins). she's big, mean, and in charge of the tank. you don't mess with big mama. she eats first, even before the gouramis. she's my favorite fish. and even though the rest of my community fish may be traded in soon, she'll be kept and given her own smaller tank. hope to keep her a few more years.

My shubunkin, Caprice, is the longest living fish I've ever owned. I bought her 6 years ago this month. When I bought her, I knew nothing about fishkeeping and kept her in one of those plastic round "tanks" from PetSmart, lol.

She's now in a 3-foot tank with a tiny stickleback and a small oranda.

Ah-ha! Thought I'd find someone with a stickleback in their tank. Not long ago, I had posted a topic on domesticated British 'wild' fishes in tanks.

How long did you quarantine the stickleback for, or did you buy it from an LFS? How did it take to the 'warmer' temps of your tank? Did it mix well with the other fishes?

Your response is greatly appreciated. :D

My Black Mozaic platy was the first tropical fish I bought and He has survived the progression from 5Gallon to 9 Gallon to 15Gallon which he now lives in with other platies and other small community fish.

My Zebra Danios were the 2nd lot of fish I bought (3 of them) which have survived Kribensis bashing in my 15G when it was overstocked (ohps). Now they thrive and own the top 5cm of my 50Gallon tank :D

They are always first to a meal and consequently one of them is fairly fat!

One tetra that has been threw more krap than It should have gone threw. I've had hip threw cycleing(before I knew a thing about fish) and now he is with a african brown knife(I know that you will say that this isn't a good idea but I did it and he is fine). 8)

Daveo :flex:

What fish do you have that can live 8 years?! Must've been through a lot, or did you leave them in the one tank?

Two stories about amazing Corydoras', both of which happened to my girlfriend's father;

1. When performing a water change, a cory was accidentally left in the bucket after the rest were put back in. It lived a day in the bucket without water, when it was found and put back in. It lived a day more inside the tank, but then died.

2. When a heater went schizoid, it boiled every fish in the tank (or so it seemed). When the water cooled back down, two corys were found, along with two tiny holes in the sand. It would seem they burrowed themselves to protect from the boiling!

AMAZING!

My fish aren't really old, I just started my tank about 2 months ago.

The stickleback came, by accident, in a bag of river shrimp I bought by my puffers.

I put him in the coldwater tank with our shubunkin and oranda and to be honest we never see him.

I have had my black long finned tetra for about 5 or 6 years, I geuss that he is getting kind of old?

Well my Cherry barb is a real trooper.

My aunt (without my permission or knowledge) bought me five cherry barbs for my birthday and just put them into my tank. Well it was a nice thought(even though my tank became officially overstocked) but they all had ick! :hyper:

They all ended up dying because of it (as didn't know a lot back then and I treated too late :-( ) except for the one which I still have now. He also survived another outbreak, the power failure last year, and many new friends. I have had him for over two years and I love the little bugger.

I've had Oscars live 10-15 years, so that's the longest for fish. My ACF Jabba though is 20

peppered cories are my longest tank mates.. had them when i first set up they got me into my love of catfish :)

my albino rainbow shark is next... had him/her since he/she was a tiddler in a 2ft tank  needless tosay ppl soon prompted me to get myself a bigger tank :)
