I'll put a recipie together for you that should work on all 3 tanks as they stand currently.

Choose a time of day as your add hour.

Each day at this time each day test pH.

If pH is less than 6 - massive water change.

If not add 3ppm ammonia (if tank can clear 3ppm in 24 hours to double zeros - increase to 5ppm)

12 hours after adding ammonia - test ammonia and nitrite - if double zeros yay! if not not long now.

Repeat these steps each day until you get double zeros 12 hours after adding ammonia.

Only add ammonia once per 24 hours at the same time each day.

Make sure you are dosing the full 5ppm towards the end of the cycle.

Once you get double zeros keep adding 5ppm every 24 hours for 1 week and make sure it clears in 12 hours.

Tank cycling 5ppm every 12 hours for 1 week = fish time.

Each day at this time each day test pH. check

If pH is less than 6 - massive water change. never less than 7 usually T2 dropped to 6.3 ONCE

If not add 3ppm ammonia (if tank can clear 3ppm in 24 hours to double zeros - increase to 5ppm)add to3ppm or 3ml??? Have been doing so if to 3ppm..was clearing ..now bumped it to 4ppm as i have no 5 colour on my chart

12 hours after adding ammonia - test ammonia and nitrite - if double zeros yay! if not not long now.been doing so

Repeat these steps each day until you get double zeros 12 hours after adding ammonia.had some..then spiked again

Only add ammonia once per 24 hours at the same time each day. i found this and am doing so

Make sure you are dosing the full 5ppm towards the end of the cycle.so i go between 4 and 8ppm for API?

Once you get double zeros keep adding 5ppm every 24 hours for 1 week and make sure it clears in 12 hours.

Tank cycling 5ppm every 12 hours for 1 week = fish time.i'm never going to have fish am i??? :(

You will get there hayley, your doing everything right just need to give it time

ppm not ml- use this calc to work out dosage for each tank,

http://www.fishforums.net/aquarium-calculator.htm

also, don't worry about spikes. This is why we have a qualifying week. It just means the bacteria aren't quite there yet.

Am I right in thinking all 3 tanks go to zeros in 24 hours now?

yes i do this too *sigh* i think i will water change.....shall i wait to dose Amm tonight?

don't do anything to the tanks other than on your decided 24 hours time.

doing funny things at funny times is one of the reasons people get strange readings.

ok will have to wait till tommorow night then as im out tonight. as im sure it they will both be spiking then also

If pH is less than 6 - massive water change.
One point I would like to add: by the time the pH has dropped, the damage has already been done and the cycle has been stalled. It is safer to overdose on the buffer and *never* let the pH drop.

Make sure you are dosing the full 5ppm towards the end of the cycle.
so i go between 4 and 8ppm for API?
For people who use API kits, I recommend dosing to 4 ppm as a maximum because it really is difficult to guess where 5 ppm is unless one doses blindly by estimating that 5 ppm is 25% more ammonia than for 4 ppm (so if 4 ppm is 4 ml, then 5 ppm is 5 ml - calculate by taking the amount needed for 4 ppm and multiply it by 1.25).

Tank cycling 5ppm every 12 hours for 1 week = fish time.

Qualifying week is very important. To be honest, it matters a lot more that you have the same amount of ammonia processed every day compared to how much ammonia is being processed. (Of course, less ammonia means a smaller starting stock.

I always like to think that once my tank is cycled and I have fish, how long ago this cycle seemed and how silly it seems. We'll look back at all this one day and laugh. Dont worry, the time for fish will get here (eventually). :p

Sorry hun works been hectic not getting online as much every thing look normal to me, my 1st tank took ages to cycle about 40 days. Stick to advise we have been through and you will fine. What time do you add ammonia every day?
