Have you ever noticed?????

While window shopping/lusting/wishing for aquariums, I noticed something. Have you ever noticed that a lot of the aquarium startup kits (those with aquarium, filter, heater, light hood, etc) especially the smaller sizes 3-20 gallon (like the kind most beginners would get) have nice brightly colored pictures on the box of aquariums that are HUGELY overstocked?

I'm looking at the box that my old 10 gal came in and the picture has

4 dwarf gouramis
22 platys
4 swordtails
1 unidentified on

that's about 35" of fish in a 10 gallon.

No disclaimer on the box

I just thought it was interesting.

The piccies they put on arent real usually. They're photoshoped. but I agree they usually show 40 million fish on the front (Kind of like my tank)

Most manufacturers put the pictures on that aren't real.

The designs and pics are just there to get your attention. Would you rather buy the box with a 10 gallon tank and two fish, or the box with the same 10 gallon tank, but 10 different bright fish?

It's the same reason that sexy supermodels are hired for deoderant commercials. Is deoderant really sexy? Is it even possible?

If you think that ten gallon kit was overstocked then you should check out some of the Eclipse tanks. I got my girlfriend a 3 gallon tank for Valentines Day and we counted about thirty fish in a display on the box! And in the instructions it said that a dozen one inch fish could be kept in a 3 gallon tank!

Yes, I bought that tank. I even wanted to get an angel for it! Good thing my parents talked me out of it, it could have been terrible
