Yesterday I purchased a 215L AquaOne AR-980 tank to upgrade from my current 2 foot tank.

I have been doing a fair bit of reading, and suspect I can clone this tank fairly quickly using the existing filter from the current tank by placing the filter media (HOB catridge) in the filter for the new tank (it will fit)

I'm trying to avoid moving the gravel across, because I want to get a finer gravel as I intend on getting 3 small clown loaches (that the LFS will swap for me when they get bigger).

So my questions are:

1. Is the filter media enough, or should I mix the new gravel with the old?
2. Is the filter media enough, or should I place some of the old gravel in the tank as well in my girldfriends stockings? (sssh - don't tell her yet :D )
3. Will clown loaches be compatible with the following: Dwarf Gouramis (2 male), cardinal tetras (8), bristlenose ( 1 approx 3.5"), ottos(3), McCullochs Rainbows(6), harlequin rasboras(2) and a zebra danio(1)?

I plan on building up the schools of harlequins and danios as well and may add some more smaller rainbows.

Can anyone offer some advice?

EDIT: for sp.

I'd advise going with a modified option 2... if you can, put an airstone in your G/F's stocking that has the gravel in it.

I dont know about clown loach compatibility as I've never had any, but my real question would be is your filter size sufficient? Not familiar with that kind of filter so I'll have to defer on that one, just make sure your filtration is enough for your tank size and stocking levels.

The filter for the new tank is in the hood, and is driven off a powerheaed. I will be checking it once I have it home to see how adequate it is, and doing somthing about it if it's not.

I have a coupld of spare cannister filters to use temporarily if needed, and running an airstone is no problem.
