Well after having an internal filter for 8 years (still going) i have decided to get an external for ease of maintenance and the efficiency

i didn't want to spend alot (under £50) at the moment my tank is just shy of 100 litres (21gallon) but i wanted to allow a little extra as i may soon upgrade to a 125 litre +

The 2 i narrowed it down to were

Eihem classic 2213

Fluval 206

anyway after more deliberation i've oped for the fluval due to the ease of maintenance, included kit and too be honest i'm still on all my original hagen/fluval kit after well over 8 years

The best price i could find was on zooplus and using a 1st time customer code of 'great1333' got 13% off - delivery is free

meaning the final price for the fluval 206 was £46.97 delivered

too early to comment on zooplus service etc but i think this was a great deal. (on a side note - i believe the above filters are german with german to uk adaptor) which means no odds to me.

Shame you didnt concider the APS (All Pond Solutions) brand of filters. They are a relatively new in the hobby but are fast becoming a big player in the aquatics industry. I've toyed with the idea of getting one of their filters for a year or so, and have heard rave reviews from others who have them. I finally opted to buy one yesterday.

It'll be a nice change for me after using Fluval for the last years. I ran the 205 and a 305 for last few years and have only one bad thing to say about them. Which is totally irrelivant because with the new 206/306 range they have amended what i would have moaned about - the primer stick.

You won't be dissapointed :)

I just this week purchased a JBL E701 green line from ZooPlus German site (it was nearly £30 cheaper than the uk site!). It arrived today and looks good. Not fitted it yet though.

Yeah APS look quiet good hadn't notice them or seen the range when i decided

the smallest aps filter (1000ef) is slurping through 1000 lph and uses 18w
The fluval 206 gets through 750lph and uses 9w

APS comes with 1 year warranty
fluval comes with 3 years

im sure to a degree the fluval, aps tera, eheim all do a fairly good job and as long as you select a suitable size its going to do a bags better job than the std internal you get with a setup - i stuck with fluval because the kit that i have had has been real good to me :good:

can i suggest that you seed the new filter with some media from your old and run your internal for a few weeks just to smooth the transition. i had a nightmare when i upgraded mine even though i seeded it i still had a mini cycle

I ran both my filters for almost 3 months, purely out of laziness (accessing the internal involved removing the mdf hood, un-wedging the perspex lid system and getting it out, not a short job like slotting the external tubes through the holes and operating via the perspex access slides (too small to squeeze the internal out).

But certainly, no matter what external you purchase I can almost cetainly say that maintence is a whole shed load easier.

Sounds like a good idea, i'll run it along side the original albeit on a low flow - thanks :good:
