I don't live in CA but I can tell you we had the same problem in Columbus, Ohio. I was told that suppliers are having trouble keeping up with the demand because of a recent surge in popularity. We were able to find some at our local Petsmart recently. My advice is to check every tank in your LFS/LPS. The livebearers we found at Petsmart were mixed with some other type of small fish (I can't remember which) and their names were not marked on the tank so they were hard to see! I had passed them over twice before someone pointed them out to me and turns out I was looking right at them! You can also ask the fish employee when they expect their stock to come in. My LPS is expecting a shipment in August and we'll be back to get some more. HTH!
