What are people's thoughts with regards to lighting. My 60l BiOrb that i am getting has two options of lighting the halogen that it comes with and the option extra is the LED lighting system that has a 24hr cycle of day and night settings. Not sure if it is a gimick or if it would make a big difference ?

sort of gimmick.

if your wanting to keep real plants then you will need to provide them with light, you need to be able to control how many hrs a day light gets to your tank (this is called the photoperiod). most of us with normal fihtank lighting just plug the lights into a timer and set it for 8-10hrs a day. if you can get something built into the tank lights that does it automatically then great. you don't really need toe day/night function it has with sunrise and sunset done gradually, but they look quite nice and it does serve a purpose.

:)

I think it is up to you to decide whether it's worth the extra cost. LEDs last a LONG time, run cooler and consume less electricity. Halogens go out pretty fast and get very hot especially when they're on like 10 hours a day. If you buy a timer for the Halogen it's an added cost and you still need to replace the bulbs every so often. With the LED system you have a built-in timer for each LED and you also have a moonlight.
