I have a Hagen test kit akd it has two ph test one for freshwater only which is lower range and one for freshwater and saltwater for higher range.

I have a freshwater and tried both test with different readings ph lower was about 6.6 - 6.8 and the ph higher was 7.9 - 8

so what readings do i go with?

What is the highest reading on the mid-range pH test and what is the highest on the high-range?

The low range is 6 - 7.6 and the higher range is 7.4 - 8.7
Can you check the expiry date on those kits? Otherwise, I recommend that you get your water tested with another kit (for example, at the LFS) or test something with a known pH, ideally using a calibration solution or otherwise something that you can find around the house… for example, saliva has a pH of 7.2-7.5, so it should appear somewhere in the 7.2-7.5 range on the mid-range kit and as 7.4-7.5 on the high-range. That way, you'll be able to see if one of the kits is giving you a false reading, below 7.2 on the mid-range or above 7.5 on the high-range (or if something is wrong with your saliva).
