Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a hagen light setup the other day. I purchsed the 30 watt electronic double ballast. On the box, it states that the kit is suggested for t10 and t12 bulbs. Well it was modded so the end caps would accept t8s.

Everything has been working fine with them up until 20 minutes ago. I lifted my canopy to see how the looked, and right then and there, they flashed blue and went dead. Now, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get them to fire back up. I checked the cables and end caps to make sure everything was secure.

The only thing is that I have two 15watt t8s running on here. Im pretty sure that the ballast is capable of running two 30w lamps. Do you think that maybe the bulbs are overpowered by the ballast and somehow fried the ballast? I tried both lamps in different fixtures and they work fine. There was no burning plastic smell or anything so nothing was melted. I did notice that the ballast was a little hot but nothing too bad.

Does anyone have any ideas? I can't seem to figure it out and have no clue what to do.

I woudl have checked the starters right away to be sure they didnt pop but once the tub eis runing the starters dont really matter :S ATM im in a sim situation...lights were runniong fine....then one tube stoped working....now the other! Took teh starters and tubes to the LFS tested em there fine so I guess my balasts are toasted :(

Wow, I forgot about some of my own posts.

Actually, I never really figured out what caused the ballast to quit working. After checking into it a little bit, I found little info on repairs myself. I decided to crack open the case of the ballast and check it out. Basically a chip board with a bunch of components soldered onto it making it absolutely impossible for me to figure out.

I was looking around and noticed a small glase 'fuse' on the corner of the board. It also looked very black and possibly burnt. With no knowledge on these lights or circuitry in general, Im guessing that's what the problem was. When I examined the rubber end caps that held the bulbs in place, I noticed one of the bulbs was lose.

A friend of mine suggested that maybe the current jumped causing the ballast to short out. Since I came up with no conclusions of my own, Im gonna go with his suggestion for what caused this. I ordered another set, and I've been running it successfully for about a month now.

I'm not sure if that will help, but that was my reply to the last post.
