Well as some of you may be aware, I bought 2 female guppies.....one began birthing in the car on the way home the other gave birth this morning....the one that gave birth this morning still is fat and has a large gravid spot. I know the fry are from different mums since they are diff colours (one lot are grey the other lot are yellow)...

The fry are doing well, eating well, socialising with other fish and pooping lots :D

Questions...

1. When do fry get their colours? Is it age or-size related?
2. How long do guppy girls hold sperm for? Meaning, how many more batches of fry could I expect?
3. If I can still see the gravid spot does this mean there are more fry to come soon or will these appear in another month?
4. Do fry grow quicker with higher temperatures?
5. Are they OK with salt in the tank?

I think thats it for now

I'm not sure when the fry actually start getting thier colors, my fry are 5 weeks old now and still no colors but they are getting big 1/4 inch from head to tail.

Female guppies can hold upto 5 donations of sperm at a given time so yes you can most likely expect more fry in approx 28 or so days. My females gravid spot disapeared for a few hours after birthing but then came back and they slowly started getting fat again.

I do not believe higher temperatures aide in their growth spirts as much as feeding amounts does... I had been feeding them crushed flake food and they were eating hardy but they didn't seem to be getting bigger, when I switched to baby bites which are crushed finer than I could ever get them myself they began to take off in size, one being a bigger pig than the other

I would recoment salt in the tank for your fry. Being guppies alone they are more suseptible to disease as they are a fragile fish, but being babies may make it worse. Salt can help to keep them healthy while they grow. 1tbls per 5 gallon..

Keep in mind I am not an expert on this, and these are just observations I have made from my own tanks as well as what I have read here and elsewhere so you may want to wait on a few more replies. In anycase good luck with your fry, they are a delight to watch.

I've got lots of baby guppies in my tank. They are starting to show colours now and are 2-3 months old.
I've got goldy looking ones and grey ones but all from the same female in the same batch of babies.
I havn't got any salt in my tank and they are doing fine. :)
