Can I put a cat fish or sucker fish in the same tank with guppy fry?
or would thay eat them?

Just want to find a fish that will eat the the food on the bottom of the take the babys have missed.

Hi MartinB :)

There are many fine cory cats who would be happy to do the job for you. They are good fry-sitters and you won't have to worry about them hurting your little ones. :D

But, there are some things you will want to consider before you get them.

How big is your tank? You will need to get 2 or 3 of them because they are schooling fish and do not do as well when they are by themselves as they do with some friends. You will also have to feed them some food that sinks to the bottom because the leftovers will not be enough for them.

Corys also need some low growing plants or a small cave so they can get in the shade some of the time.

If you can meet these requirements, any of the corys will be excellent additions to your fry tank.

Hey there martin :)

Not to disagree with inch, but I had some corydoras sterbia (not even fully grown) and if I had not seen them polishing off some guppy fry I would have not believed it!! They seemed calculated and would chase the fry until they hid in the gravel then the cories would literally "hoover" them up

An ancistrus /bristlenose pleco on the other hand shoudn't eat live fry. Why do you want catfish in a fry tank anyway ? :)

OMG  I've never heard of such a thing! -_-

But come to think of it, I've seen sterbai eat sterbai eggs, too, which is something the bronze corys don't seem to do.

OK, MartainB, let me change my recommendation. You can feel quite safe if you get bronze or albino corys for your fry tank. My corys are so good with fry that one day when they unexpectedly started spawning, I netted them out and put them in a tank with their 2 week old fry. They continued laying their eggs without a glance at the tiny fry. I raised both batches together. The only problem they caused the fry was the turbulence they caused as they swam around. :D

Thanks!!!
I just got an old 10 gallon tank and have given it a good clean and set it up.
Got nothing in it but Gravel.
Was thinking of putting in a divider to make two 5 gallon tanks.
Just put some gravel and water in from my other tank.
going to wait till next year now.
I have 10 guppy fry in a net only a week old.

Hi MartinB :)

If you put gravel and water in your new tank from your old tank, it is a cycled tank and needs fish to feed the bacteria.

Please put a couple of fish in it as soon as possible so that the bacteria will continue to live and reproduce. :D

Thanks Inchworm.
I will put 2 of my swardtails in.

Should I put some snails in?

Hi MartinB :)

It might be a good idea to wait with the snails because there probably won't be too much for them to eat just yet. If they're big snails they might eat your plants, if you have any, and if they are the little pond snails it might be a good idea to keep them out (if you can help it.) But, it's up to you.

Whatever you do, don't put too much in too quickly. Adding fish and snails a little at a time is usually best so that the bacteria can catch up. :D

I have a 8 inch pleco and 4 albino corys in with my 2 guppys and they seem ok the female is pregant, so i wont let the femlae at all have here fry in that tank they would be gone in 2 seconds :D , but ye they should be ok with them :smb:

 It depends on what species of fish that you are planning to add in to your aquarium.
Sometimes these fishes, being omnivorous they eat small fries!

Hey martin!

Dont worry! Cories wont harm ur fry. At least mine dont. Cories are mostly peaceful fish, so you can keep them with just about any fish. usually, if there are any problems involving cories, it is the cories getting disturbed, and not them disturbing others.

P.T.
