Well, I've finally decided on fish for my soon-to-come tank!
I've chosen... guppies! :hyper:
So I need all the help on what tank conditions they need but most of all, I want to see if I can breed them. Is this a lot of work? Are the fry hard to keep alive? If I do breed them, do the fry stay in a quarantine tank, I only plan to keep guppies, I just can't decide what other fish I could put in there. What Ph level do I need to keep for guppies? How do I put the Ph up or down? And, should I breed them?
I decided to research some more and I think I got most of the info I need:
Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-??
Feed them at least twice a day, as much as they can eat in 3 min.
Temp.-??
Do water changes (not sure when... ) and change 1/3 of tank water.
Cycle for at least 2 weeks.
Any other info I need? any of this info wrong?

I JUST LOVE GUPPIES!!!!!
If you want to breed them you might need another probably 5 gallon fry tank i think a good temp for them would be 24C
And for the water changes i would change a fifth of the water every week.

Guppies are very easy to breed. As mentioned, it is best to have a fry tank. But really depends how many females are pregnant at once. Its probably good to invest in a fry trap/net (i have both, but prefer the net cause its bigger). So the femlae can give birth and the fry can drop below to get them from being eaten. PM me if ud like anymore info.

Ok, thanks.
I was just planning on buying a male and female first, and then when the babies are born and get big enough I'll put them in the tank. I want a guppy tank. Where do I buy the fry net?

better to have at least 2 females to 1 male. The males tend to harass the females, so if you have 2, one of the females gets a break!

I would avoid putting the female in the trap; I have known females to get stressed out in the trap (or net) and abort their fry. The best use for the trap IMO is for netting the fry after birth and putting them in for the first few weeks, after that you'll need to let them out to avoid stunting their growth. But by then they should have got more able to get out of trouble anyway. It also helps to have the tank heavily planted to give them hiding places.
Make sure you buy strong healthy looking guppies from a shop where all the gups look healthy (in particular, look out for white stringy poop- bad sign!). Follow the sex ratio given by foxie.

we net the fry after they are born , our guppy females get way too upset with a breeding trap

Guppies + water = Guppies ++
The trick to guppies is how to have them Not breed. (They're like teenagers that way.) Fortunately, guppy populations are self limiting.

guppies re really cool
fully grown males look cool#
