Guppies staying at the top of the tank

I'm seeing this happen but just today. I've had it for 4.5 months haven't seen this until now. A few do this but not this much they aren't gasping. They are there for a while then go back to normal. My issues is seems like more are doing it and for longer times.

Please describe the tank and give your water test results, those are always the first things to check when fish begin acting differently.

do a 50% water change.
check that your thank have good aeration

It could be low oxygen. Consider adding an air stone or increasing surface agitation somehow.

it probably is low oxygen levels the very first thing to do is 50% water change

Poor water quality, low oxygen (as mentioned), or gill flukes.

Check the water quality for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and GH.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

Most filters have a flow adjuster of sorts.

You could try increasing the flow from your filter or perhaps adjusting the water output nozzle or spray bar to increase agitation of the water surface.

This will help oxygen exchange into the water column.

Also if the filter has decreased in flow output, then could mean the filter is in need of maintenance by taking out sponge media and rinsing that in old tank water in a bucket when you do the water change.

Try those first before doing anything else.

And hopefully that will do the trick for your guppies as it does sound like low oxygen levels in the water column.
