Ok guys, here's the deal. I've bought a 60l Tetra AquaArt tank, my first 'complete responsibility' tank. I'm going to cycle it once I get a new carpet for the room, otherwise it's too heavy to move. I've been kitting it out with some stuff - plain gravel, a nice piece of bogwood, some fake rock and lots of silk plants. So...

Guppies - I'm on a limited budget and can't afford a fry tank. If I got, say, 8-10 male guppies, would that be ok? Someone told me they fight if kept together, but I haven't heard that before.

Shrimp - do Shrimp count towards the stocking count? If not, how many should I get, and of what type? The local pets@home (boo, hiss) has what I think are ghost shrimp - they're labelled 'shrimp' and a clear. Apparently they grow up to 5 cm.

Bristlenose Pleco - getting one as well, any recommendations on the food they could eat. Other that algae and occasional cucumber, are there any pellet foods they like?

Thanks for your time :good:

soo by my math its around 15-20 gallons? This is big enough for guppies but there are many other possibilities as well. Guppies I would keep maybe keep 7 personally but you can do more. Keep in mind they are a live bearer and breed like rabbits if female and male are kept together. I would personally keep 5 Guppies, 1 BN Pleco, 5 shrimp and maybe another species of fish (maybe a gouami).

Also is the tank wide or tall? Guppies are an active fish that like to have a good sized swimming space.

Pleco need veggies to eat. I personally take some cucumber and tie a weight to it with some fishing line. Try varies amounts of veggies and switch it out daily or bi daily depending on how fast it deteriorates. They also eat algae waffers.

Lastly for most shrimp (as far as I know) the ratio is 1 shrimp per gallon. I know thats right for ghost shrimp anyways.

The tank is roughly 2ft wide, 1ft deep and 1 and a bit ft high

well I would still start out with 5 guppies and add more little by little seeing as you dont want to add to many to fast. If you like the look of the tank with 5 you can buy more or try another type of fish. Have you considered other bottom feeders as well? I bet you could fit some pygmy Cory in there with the Guppies. Also Coolie Loach may be cool and would fit in there.

Any suggestions on other types of fish - ideally small, under 5cms, and hardy :)

Would it be OK with:

1 Bristlenose Pleco

5 Male Guppies

6 Neon Tetras?

try cardinal tetras instead of the neon lovely little fish and in my experiance most people prefer them to neons
