Well basically I currently have a 5 Gallon tank cycling and need to know how many guppies can live happily in it. At the moment I want to keep 3 females and a male. I have asked several friends(who have larger fish tanks)if they could take some of the fry when they grow up and my LFS will most likely take the fry as a donation (id be shocked if they gave me any cash for them). So is this a good amount for a tank as small as a 5 gallon?

well guppies realistically need a 20g but for 4 i'd say a 10g
use the 5g as a birth tank (for fry) and buy a 10g as a main tank

Guppies only need a 20 gallon if you have them by the dozens. They are small fish and will do fine in a 5 gallon.

They will do fine in a 5 gallon, but I wouldn't breed them if that's the only tank you have.

That is a ton of fish for a 5 gallon Biokid. When my guppy tank starts to look that crowded, I sell off most of the adults. That stops the rapid population expansion for a while and gives me some breathing room to decide whether I want to add to my tanks again. At 25 altogether, that is becoming a much more difficult question for me to answer. The old answer was always "of course" but lately spots to place the new tank are becoming harder to find. I still need to live in the house.

old man : I have a friend who breeds cats and has a bungalow just for them, you could buy your fish their own house?

OP: I would be very careful about being overstocked with fry whilst theyre growing. Maybe get another fry grow-out tank?

I have 4 guppies and 2 (soon to be 4) corys in my 2ft 12gallon tank. I will be putting a few more in the tank when the fry grow up from mine.
Surely i can't be overstocked? They are tiny fish compared to some other fish people keep.
