Hey,

I just wanted to say you don't have to go to great lenghs to keep your fry alive, like feeding them fry food or separating them from the other fish.

Mine were fed on normal adult flakes and they were born into the wide open tank. In the end I got 20 adult guppies! Thats more than enough!

But i must say if you have larger fish than i have, I have mollies, guppies, platys and tetras. If you have larger fish that would be more likely to eat the fry then yes do everything i didn't do...

Im just saying this because i read people go to great lenghs for their fry to survive, keeping them in a inclosed area and feeding them on fry food, the fry are cleverer than you think and they know where to hide.

As long as they have alot of places to hide it should be fine.

Missy

please reply as i would like to know what you think!

Yes, fry will survive if you don't do anything. It's not needed. That's how they live in the wild, after all. Usually not the best idea if you have aggressive fish, or fish that like to eat fry though. I'm surprised your's survived, as you have a lot of fry-eaters in that tank.

However, seperating them is best if you are trying to raise them specially, as you can be pretty much assured they will survive. You can also feed good foods, which can make them stronger and more colorful. And it's fun to watch them grow up.

When I'm not selectively breeding my Variatus Platies or my Fancy/Feeder Guppies, I just let the fry do their do. If they survive, great. :)

I agree with this topic. I have my lemon tetras breed and i had 2 fry's. I did abosultely nothing. Well i crushed the flakes so they would be ez to eat for the fries. But that is all i did. The tetras use to try to take a big gulp at the fry's but they were to fast for them. The funny part is when the black skirt tetras come near the fry's the fry go right into a small cave not big enuf for the other fish. They just hide in their and come out roam around irritate the other fish and go right back into the cave. It is like tom and jerry where the cat chases the mouse, and the mouse runs into the small hole, and the cat cant do anything. I should make a video :D

Absolutely none of my fry survived in my tank before I decided to save the lot Im rearing now .I guess it has a lot to do with the tank set up and inhabitants.
I am so glad however that I decided to set up a fry tank as it is fascinating watching them grow day by day and watching their behaviour change as they become more confident
The fry tank gives me an oppurtunity to view this at close quarters which I wouldnt get in the main tank. Its made fishkeeping even more enjoyable than befoe :D

Hey,

Yes i do think it does depend on the tank, but all im saying is not everyone should worry so much... i just thought id share my story ;)

Missy :)

You are lucky in that a few survive but not too many to be a problem
I just got hacked off with the fact that none of mine ever survived longer than a few days before something ate them.I therefore decided to give this lot a helping hand and am really glad I did-plus the fact that the lfs owner says he will take as many off my hands as I can raise :D
