Green Water

Saltynay, i appreciate your help and all. But amano shrimps aren't an option.

I'll look around for hornwort, like i said. I used to have absoulute tons of the stuff. :p

Got a Barley bale today, will see what it does. Still haven't found any decent amounts of Hornwort. Will keep looking!

hi 3ndl3r

sorry about this you say you dont want a uvc but is your pond filtered?

dont forget you will need to keep replacing the bail through out the year for it to work and stay on top of the algea, you could also add some barley straw extract to help speed up the process and get on top of the problem,
barley straw needs to rot down for it to release the extract that helps clump the algea ,so a boost of barley straw extract will help till the barley straw rots enough to take effect which could take from a few weeks or a few months to take effect
you will also need to add enough bails to treat your pond volume one bail may not be enough .

Why don;t you want a UV?

That was the best £45 I spent on my pond last year as I ha murky green water and couldn;t see more than 2-3 inches in, my UV sorted that in day or two and my pondis crystal clear. I get more satisfaction from my pond now I can see right down to bottom as I can see all the fish

I'd get plants anyway but if you have filtration just geta UV its a no brainer in my opinion

Hi mate,

Give blanket answer ago (by cloverleaf). You can find some on ebay.
Works great within a week. My pond is usually always a green pea colour by this time, year on year, treatment after treatment.

This seems like the first product that actually works.. so far anyway.
It also got alot of postive reviews on koi forums.

The reason i don't want UV is that i have nothing to use it with. The only filtration is an internal pump.

Unless im missing something

you can use a uv with out filtration but you do need a filter to catch the dead algea, dead algea can cause fines
its the same with anything you add to the pond to kill it off so you may find it goes from green to a milky grey once the uv or chemicals have done their jobs

yea, no point using the treatment if you dont have a proper filter to catch the dead algea

the pond is filtered....

does a UV unit suck up water (sounds stupid) by itself? or does it need a pump or something...?

Most need a pump then need to go through filtration to remove the dead algae.

I said 'Proper' filter. Not some just a one piece sponge connected to an internal pump.
This isnt a 100lt fish tank afterall..

If you actually want your pond to be clear of greenwater and the UV/treatment to work then you need a real filter large enough for your pond to catch the debris. Otherwise you'll just be throwing cash out of the window.

also have a look at this link

It isn't a one piece sponge, it's actually a very good filter consisting of many different media. And it is big enough for the pond.

Im not going with UV, sounds like too much hassle for a few goldfish and what not.

Maybe when i extend next year...

hi 3ndl3r
i take it your filter is a black box type filter or something similar what make is it?

it seems daft not to at the end of the day
its a case of cutting your pipe to your filter inlet, then fitting the 2 ends of the cut pipe to inlet and and outlet of the uv ,tighten jubilee clips and plug in bobs your uncle job done, not a hard job a few hours
