I received my UV sterilizer yesterday and I'm wondering how long it takes to get rid of the free floating algae? My tank is pretty much all green, I can see about 2 - 3" into the tank. It's a coralife 3x turbo-twist and the filter is pumping at around 100-125 GPH. I can see that it's starting to work at the top of the tank, It's kind of like a white-gray -> green gradient heading to the bottom of the tank. lol.

I'm really curious to see how it works. I've been SO tempted to buy one of those little things.

I've just got one due to a green water prob, TMC's Vecton Ultraviolet Steriliser. Had it runnin for about 36 hours and water seems to be getting better! I think if I stopped looking at the tank for a good few hours then you would really see a difference. I have heard different reports, some people claim its gets rid the green water over night while others have to wait about 5 days for clear water.

True, mines probally going to take a while because it's REALLY green. I can tell a difference, not a lot though.

Let me know how it goes. I was expecting it to clear in a matter of hours! That was a little hopefull tho!

I've been reading and it seems to be the slower the water goes through the better it works so I turned mine down just a bit. My tank was so green I could only see maybe 2" into the tank.

Dad had that problem with his 75g tank. I gave him a powerhead so he could set up the UV sterilizer easily without putting it inline with his canister filter. We set it up on Sunday afternoon, and he said when he got home from work Monday night it was crystal clear. I went by the next week to see it and it was absolutely gorgeous!
